In the new range of Razer gaming products, you could not miss the Razer Blackwidow 2019, a keyboard that joins the family of mechanical keyboards. It features Razer Chroma RGB lighting and the famous Razer Green mechanical switches that are so versatile and quicker and more responsive. In addition, its entry price is very competitive and we have distribution in Spanish, good news for ours.

Unboxing and design

Good detail from the manufacturer is to put an opening in the product box to allow us to touch and test these switches before buying the keyboard. Not for that reason it will have less protection, since we have a large thick cardboard box with a spectacular design in black and green next to an image of the keyboard in RGB mode working.

On the flip side of the same, full photo of the keyboard and the hallmarks of the Razer Green switches it mounts and its compatibility with the Razer Chroma system.

If we open the box, we will see a keyboard perfectly protected by two high-density foam molds and a plastic protector for the keyboard. In the upper area is the USB cable, which is fixed and has only one connector. In this case we will not have any more accessories apart from the user manual and our hope for brand new product.

Razer fans have good news as the brand expands its extensive repertoire of mechanical gaming keyboards with this new Razer Blackwidow 2019, or just Blackwidow. A keyboard that unites the entire experience of the gaming manufacturer with improved switches and a fairly affordable price for what we have in our hands, we will see all this in this analysis.

A good detail for this keyboard would have been to include the four secondary direction keys and thus exchange them for the "A, S, D and W" but it has not been possible.

Here we fully see the Razer Blackwidow, although still without lighting. It is presented to us as a complete mechanical keyboard, with its respective numerical pad on the right and in QWERTY configuration in Spanish. Quality is always present in Razer products, and they are maintained in this keyboard, although their finishes are not aluminum, but thick ABS plastic, judging by the overwhelming weight of this keyboard, which will be located around the 1300 grams.

No official measurements are detailed in the product sheet, but they are the classic ones of practically all keyboards, with an os 447 mm long, 190 mm wide and 45 mm high with the legs extended, measurements made by ourselves.

Its external appearance is extremely similar to the Razer Blackwidow X Chroma, and of course with keys of identical sizes and elevation to the rest of Razer products, a hallmark and perfectly familiar to those who use one of their previous keyboards. This Razer Blackwidow is a gaming-oriented keyboard, but also perfect for typing, in fact, the brand has opted for its Razer Green mechanical switches with the typical "click" sound when pressed.

The touch of the keys is smooth and quite light, since they have a smooth finish and some movement in their couplings to the switch, also a signature of the house. That is why the keystroke becomes quite agile without noticing that feeling of hardness and extra effort that other mechanical keyboards present. Something that many will like and others less.

This model is also not available with wrist rests, in its case we have a relatively wide edge with a smooth inclination bevel so that the edges do not disturb the wrists if we are used to writing with our hands very close to the keyboard.

It is a good strategy to get out of trouble, but as before, there will also be users who want a keyboard with a full wrist rest, and in this case we will not have it available.

The indicator LEDs remain above the arrow keys and in addition a logo is also included in the central area that will light up like the other keys. Razer also never neglects the game mode option or dual-function keys for basic lighting control.

Surely what interests us most about a mechanical keyboard is its switches. This Razer Blackwidow implements the very successful Razer Green or green mechanical switches as we see. These have a distinctive touch touch and a fairly quiet click sound, we must say, compared, for example, to the brand's mechanical optical switches.

The Razer Greens have a 50 gram click touch actuation force, with a 1.9 mm actuation point and a total travel distance of 4 mm. They are ideal for users who like to feel the point of action and need really fast switches such as those in this new review, ranking as one of the fastest of the brand and gaming keyboards.

In addition, they are very suitable switches for writing jobs, with a durability of more than 80 million clicks. Perhaps they are the most suitable for these purposes, compared to the Orange and Yellow variants, being therefore the most versatile.

Something that we could miss at first glance is the option of dual function keys, but this Razer Blackwidow is a fully customizable keyboard using the Synapse 3 software, and we can customize the functions of each of the keys and assign if we want double functions and macros for them.

Let's also remember that this new update has full Ani-Ghosting capacity, in which each key sends its signal independently, and also with N -Key Rollover in gaming mode, with the ability to map all the keys that we press simultaneous. Furthermore, its sampling rate is 1000 Hz to provide a response of less than 1 ms.

We turn this Razer Blackwidow around and we find generous supports covered by rubber feet on the sides and central area, in addition to the corresponding legs. They are also house signature configurable in two different positions or completely folded for maximum ergonomics.

We appreciate the detail of its front area that allows us to route the 2 meter braided USB 2.0 cable, either to the front or to the right and left, depending on our tastes and needs.

Despite the fact that this Razer Blackwidow 2019 does not have a surname like the rest of its family, we have a very complete RGB LED lighting with Razer Chroma technology of 16.8 million colors and what that means. We can customize it key by key from our Synapse 3, place animations or synchronize it with other Chroma devices.

Razer Synapse 3 software

To manage this keyboard we will need to have Synapse 3 completely updated to version 3.4.216 or higher in order to detect this keyboard correctly and in general the new products that Razer has launched in the first quarter of 2019.

The first thing we can do is customize the functions of these key by key. Being able to remap each and every one of its functions or to place dual functions that we can execute with the "Fn" key located on the right, next to the right Ctrl.

We will even have the possibility to map mouse functions, program execution and lighting settings. Without a doubt we will be here for a long time exploring options to leave our keyboard completely personalized.

Nor could it lack the customization of the lighting and of the hardware's own functions, such as the game mode, and the Polling Rate. The system consists of adding layers of animations and effects to the program until generating interactive lighting that reacts to what we do on our keyboard. Do not limit yourself to placing a rainbow effect because that is only 1% of what you can do with its lighting.

Now we will also have an option that will allow us to view the games compatible with the system, for example, DOOM. It will be the game itself that manages the lighting, providing it with special effects synchronized with what we are doing in the game.

A software that should never be missing if we have Razer products.

Final words and conclusion about Razer Blackwidow

We almost forgot that we had this keyboard installed on our PC, because we have been using it for several days to play games and to edit our articles and analyzes and the truth is that its operation is exemplary, and worthy of the upper-middle range to which it belongs. Very fast keys, good sensitivity and agile keystrokes and without any work. If you come from another Razer keyboard, you will feel at home, but with improved sensations.

The design is also very good, although we miss the aluminum finishes of other units. The choice of ABS is understandable, to provide a cheaper high-end keyboard than for example the Blackwidow X Chroma and exactly the same mechanical and lighting performance. Some users may miss the palm rest.

The switches are perfect for both writing and playing, and the Chroma lighting is wonderful, and one of the best today, both in terms of customization and spectacular. To this we add impeccable management by Synapse 3 and with the possibility of customizing each key and adding macros.

Finally say that Razer Blackwidow we will have it available from this March 15 in online purchase for a price of 129.99 euros in Europe and the same price in dollars in America. Very competitive price and that makes it a highly recommended keyboard.
