If you want a gaming keyboard, the Razer BlackWidow has always been one of the best options, and from now on it will be even more thanks to the arrival of the new Razer BlackWidow Elite, which wants to make the legend of the Californian brand even bigger. Let's see all the secrets that this new genius hides.

First of all, we thank Razer for the trust placed in us by transferring the product to us for analysis.

Razer BlackWidow Elite technical characteristics

Unboxing and design

T his Razer BlackWidow Elite is the last product that we had to analyze from the kit that Razer sent us, it is a special kit for the press, so we cannot show you the commercial presentation of this keyboard. We leave you some sample photos.

The Razer BlackWidow Elite fixes many small flaws of other Razer keyboards. In this case we find dedicated multimedia controls, a simple palm rest and 3.5mm USB and audio connections. Conversely, we found no additional macro keys that make the keyboard large and unwieldy. Its dimensions are 448 x 140x 36.5 mm with a weight of 1223 grams, it must be taken into account that the width increases up to 230 mm with the wrist rest on and the weight up to 1706 grams.

The PC connection cable measures 1.8 meters, is braided, and includes two USB 2.0 ports along with a 3.5mm audio jack.

In general, we can say that the design of this keyboard is a case of the Huntsman Elite. The black plastic chassis is nothing special, but the sleek, tall keycaps reflect subtle backlighting on the keyboard surface to enhance aesthetics. The keyboard follows Razer's overall layout, with the F keys endowed with extra functionality alongside the Fn key. The main ones are F9 to record macros in flight, F10 to activate the gaming mode and F11-F12 to adjust the intensity of the lighting.

At the top right, we find dedicated multimedia controls, with aesthetically pleasing circular buttons and a wheel that you can use to control volume or light levels.

On the left side we find a USB port and a 3.5mm audio jack, something that will be very useful for some users. USB transfer is fairly common on premium keyboards, but audio transfer is a relatively new touch.

The Razer BlackWidow Elite isn't the smallest full-size keyboard out there, but you should have no trouble installing it on a standard desktop. An important difference between the BlackWidow Elite and the Huntsman Elite is that the BlackWidow comes with a standard wrist rest instead of the model with integrated LED lighting. The palm rest is comfortable, durable, and magnetic, but easy to avoid if space on your desk is tight.

The Razer BlackWidow Elite also renews the brand's proprietary switches. The new switches have a whole new look. Instead of small, independent crossings, the crossings are now much larger and almost completely surrounded by a plastic circle. The new switches appear much more durable due to their larger size and better casing. These switches offer a 1.5mm activation path, with a maximum travel of 3.5mm and an activation force of only 45g. Razer promises that these switches support 80 million keystrokes.

The Razer BlackWidow Elite has a cable management system, which allows the braided power cable to be passed through the left or right side of the peripheral. At the bottom we also see the legs to raise the keyboard slightly if we want.

Synapse 2 software

To get the full potential out of this Razer BlackWidow Elite keyboard, we can use the Synapse 2 tool, it is an incredibly well-worked and easy-to-use management software. Razer Synapse 2 software works really well and offers many possibilities. You can reprogram certain keys, create macros, link games with custom profiles, toggle game mode options to disable certain keys during gameplay.

When it comes to lighting, it 's hard to describe how beautiful the keyboard looks when it's fully lit. You can program an attractive rainbow wave, solid color, or anything in between. You can match lighting profiles to individual sets, and Razer has even preprogrammed a series of sets with complex lighting profiles. Overwatch, for example, changes the keyboard color scheme, depending on the character you select. The manufacturer proves once again that Synapse 2 is at the highest level when it comes to software.

Final words and conclusion about Razer BlackWidow Elite

This Razer BlackWidow Elite keyboard works in a really excellent way, its Razer Green switches have been renewed to be even better, while maintaining all the features you love so much. Its operation is very smooth and precise, without any trace of failed pulsations or jams. The keycaps are also very pleasant to the touch, and let the light pass through with great intensity, something that does not happen on all keyboards.

The design is really robust, showing great quality in all aspects. Razer continues to bet on the use of plastic, of very good quality, by the way. Some may think that there is too much plastic to run premium keyboard, but Razer uses a polymer of exceptional quality.

The Synapse 2 application is the perfect companion for this keyboard, since it allows us to take advantage of its enormous potential in a very simple way. From the lighting to the macros and all the parameters, everything is really simple and pleasant to use.

Razer BlackWidow Elite is for sale for a price of 170 euros, in the line of current top-of-the-range keyboards.
