We are all familiar with cloth mats, but not so much with plastic or glass models. Razer brings us a review of its original Firefly model, introducing the Razer Firefly V2 with revised features. Let's take a look at it!
Unboxing of Razer Firefly V2
The Firefly V2 mat is presented in a standard box with a die-cut on its cover. In this way, those interested can touch the texture of the upper surface.
On its cover we have a suggestion for the presentation of the mat showing its RGB lighting. Both the illustration and the texts and various information are highlighted with reflective resin against the matte finish of the standard box.
The first details that call our attention are the label that informs us of a greater brightness regarding its interior model, specifically three times more. On the other hand, as highlights we have the presence of the Razer Chroma software, ultra-thin design and fastening for the mouse cable.
On the other hand, we find the usual infographic that informs us of the strongest points of the Razer Firefly V2:
- Built-in Cable Clamp - Organizes the mouse cable easily to avoid tangles, reducing drag and allowing smoother mouse gliding. Microtextured Surface - The surface of the Razer Firefly V2 mouse pad is calibrated for all mouse sensors and is laboratory tested to ensure millimeter tracking between mouse and cursor. Optimized surface coating - Whether you want to boost speed, control, or balance the two, the mat's coating offers just the right levels of friction. Ultra-slim design with anti-slip base: At just 3mm thick enough for your wrist to rest comfortably on the desk while the rubber anti-slip base keeps the mat in place. Comprehensive peripheral lighting: With 19 lighting zones, all sides of the mat can light up and reproduce RGB lighting patterns.

Razer Firefly V2 design
The size of this mat is intermediate: larger than a regular mousepad but smaller than a maxi mat that covers our entire gaming surface. It is a quite versatile surface for almost all desks given its size and also valid for those who have mice with a medium or high DPI.
Regardless of its size, the next thing that can catch our attention is the texture, both superior and inferior. The cover of the Razer Firefly V2 is polycarbonate. It has considerable rigidity and has a fine grainy texture. Along all the edges of the mat we have a band that protrudes between the polycarbonate and silicone plates, providing RGB lighting.
In the upper right area we also find the Razer imager drawn as a silhouette with a translucent white finish that suggests that it also receives a backlight.
Continuing on the top left we have a built-in clamp to fix the extra cable of our mouse (if wireless). On this device we find the name of Razer screen printed with a glossy black finish that contrasts with the matte appearance of the structure. From it starts the USB cable that we can connect to our PC to activate the Chroma lighting.
The back of the Razer Firefly V2 is made of non-slip silicone rubber with a grainy dot pattern that added to the weight of the mat itself (771g) does its job very well and is difficult to move by accident.
The wire
As it could not be less, the cable of the Razer Firefly V2 is fiber braided. It comes rolled by default with a black silicone strap and is quite generous in length at 213cm.
At the end closest to the USB we find a small transformer node to manage the energy received by the mat. The USB type A on the other hand has the classic green tongue of the brand and has the name of Razer engraved in bas-relief on the plastic structure that reinforces the connector.
Commissioning
We arrived at the acid test. We connect the cable and we receive a great rainbow courtesy of Razer Chroma, its default lighting model. The differences that we can notice in a plastic mat when we are used to using another cloth are obvious.
The friction index in the Razer Firefly V2 is lower than in fabric, so that at first we will notice that the mouse glides on the mat is made in a more agile and fluid way. Another issue to note is its toughness. A plastic mat does not accidentally wrinkle or roll by the passage of our wrist or sweat on it. We will also notice that the touch is slightly cooler compared to fiber mosepads , an issue that may be a preference depending on the user.
The intensity of the initial lighting is intermediate, but even so its colors can be appreciated even in broad daylight.
When we raise the intensity of the light to the maximum it is when we can really notice how vibrant it is along the entire periphery of the mat. The Razer icon remains slightly dimmer than the rest, so it doesn't transmit as powerful a light in comparison.
software
As it could not be less, the Razer Firefly V2 can synchronize its lighting with the other Razer products that we have connected to our PC using the Razer Synapse software. With regard to the mat, we can regulate factors such as light intensity or customize your own patterns either from the predefined list or by creating your own.

Final words and conclusions about Razer Firefly V2
We know that there are not a few users that compared to other PC peripherals, the mats do not come out very well. Most of us have used fabric with different types of qualities and we have faced disadvantages such as the separation of the layers (for which they are not braided), stains or wrinkles.
The benefits of plastic floor mats start with a well-maintained surface that will remain flawless for a very long time and are easier to clean than their fabric cousins. In the case of the Razer Firefly V2 the mouse cable holder is a good addition, although if you are users of wireless models you will not get any benefit. Adding this to the excellent lighting we have a very attractive product that without a doubt the most fanatical of the little lights will greatly appreciate.
However, we would not recommend this model to those users who are not fans of having a nightclub per game room since it is its strongest point regardless of the quality of its materials.
The Razer Firefly V2 is on sale for € 59.99 as a starting price. It is a very attractive complement to any PC setup and what increases its value to this point is a combination of the materials used and the addition of Chroma RGB.
Apart from this, those users who have an affinity for plastic mats and already have other Razer peripherals such as the mouse and keyboard will make the most of the Razer Firefly V2. The mere fact of synchronizing your lighting is undoubtedly its most striking point. On the other hand, if you are not interested in RGB, you can find other types of models on the market for a lower price.
If you have the money to spend and are looking for add-ons to take your gaming corner to the next level, you can consider the Razer Firefly V2 as a solid candidate.
