Razer has launched this 2019 the Mercury White family of products, with its most iconic peripherals now in an exclusive white color. Today we bring you the Razer Kraken Mercury White headset and the Razer Base Station Mercury White stand, two gaming peripherals with a touch more elegant and refined than their original models.

We already analyze these headphones in depth, so we will go through them a little faster, citing their differences and expanding information, while the base itself we released it.

Before proceeding, we thank Razer for their trust in us by lending us the peripherals of this family of Mercury products to do our review.

Unboxing

In this case we have to do a joint Unboxing and see how these two products are presented. And is that in addition to the personalization of the product itself, Razer has also modified the presentation of the boxes, both of high quality rigid cardboard.

In the case of Razer Base Station Mercury, we have a white box on its front face with a photo and the characteristics of the product on the outside. Inside, the product is perfectly accommodated in a flexible polyurethane foam mold where we find the removed base and support, as well as the user guide.

In the case of the Razer Kraken Mercury we have a blank box with the respective product information, and the product placed in a plastic mold. Next to it we only have the Y splitter to split the connection in audio and micro, and the user instructions.

Design and news of Razer Kraken Mercury

As we said, some time ago we carried out an in-depth analysis of these Razer Kraken, worthy successors of the previous generation Kraken Pro and maintaining practically the same design as them. Because, if something works, why change it.

And in this case we are on the same terms, since the basic structural design is the same. And what has been profoundly changed is its aesthetics, now based on white and gray tones that undoubtedly give it a far superior elegance to the base model in bright green. Let's review a little the key elements of this headset.

These are headphones in a circumaural design that weigh only 322 grams, with a simple bridge headband design. This makes its placement and support very good at the same time, also facilitated by a highly rigid metal chassis that allows us to increase the circumference by 5 cm on each side. On the top we have a pad protection in a rather thin fabric that has not improved compared to the base design, and a synthetic leather finish on the top.

The canopies are slightly oval with an effective diameter of 100 mm. Inside, rather large pads with a thickness of 25 mm and a height of 20 mm have been installed, preventing the ears from contacting the hard internal part. They are made of cooling gel with a mesh fabric in contact with the face and synthetic leather on the sides. Really comfortable and protecting a lot from external noise.

The microphone is of retractable configuration, so its rod can be extended and stored whenever we want inside the helmets. It has a good length to reach the mouth well and is completely flexible to place it the way we want.

Personally I like this design of the Razer Kraken Mercury more than the green of the base model, much more discreet as well as elegant as a whole. Possibly they make us upload the odd FPS in the games (joke).

Razer Base Station Mercury Design

Now let's take a closer look at the Razer Base Station Mercury headphone base. The initial model is presented in black and with the same shape structurally speaking. The change lies precisely in the color, which in this model is completely matt white.

It is high enough to fit almost any headset, thanks to about 250 mm. Its construction is entirely in high-resistance plastic, and considerable thickness and flexibility, we must add. A slightly rough finish has been used on the entire surface to take it better and give it a more Premium appearance.

In the lower area we have an adherent white rubber foot so that the base does not move from the site, since its weight is not too high. On the upper face we only see a Razer logo that has no lighting. And the truth is that we do not know the reason, since the entire edge of the base does have RGB lighting with Razer Chroma technology customizable from Synapse 3 as we will see now.

But the most interesting thing about this Razer Base Station Mercury, is its connectivity, since it includes three USB 3.1 Gen1 ports on the front, to connect peripherals or flash drives. The connection to the equipment is made through the back area, thanks to a USB 3.1 Gen1 connector with a fairly thick, 1 meter long, meshed cable.

Remembering the sound experience, and recording quality

These Razer Kraken Mercury feature brand custom 50mm neodymium drivers and outstanding insulation. The sound quality is very good, with very balanced frequencies in all three ranges, and more discreet bass than previous models, but without losing its forcefulness and depth, something that marks the house.

The sound it delivers is detailed and crystal clear even at high volumes, with a response frequency between 12 Hz and 28 kHz, well above the human spectrum. Although in this case we have a sensitivity of 109 dB, which gives volumes not as high as other models, although it is not necessary either.

With this sound test that we leave you, we can see that the voice is heard clearly, although at a somewhat low volume (on the test bench I had it at maximum and set). We have not detected any background noise in the recording, although it is also true that the sound card is a Realtek ALC1220 installed on the MSI MEG X390 ACE. A high quality plate and a codec with the maximum performance of the generation. Among the typical limitations, the response frequency between 100 Hz and 10 kHz, make its use limited to voice chats and little else.

The volume control is still on the connection cable through a small baton with a potentiometer and a mute button for the mic. In my opinion, the most elegant and safe option would have been to place the controls in the left canopy, and also that volume wheel has very little travel and is somewhat fragile. We appreciate, however, that a “Y” Splitter is included to divide audio and microphone.

Synapse software for Razer Base Station Mercury

The headset is not manageable by software because of its analog connection, but it is the basis of these. Specifically, we will need to have installed the Razer Synapse 3 software, which is used to manage the entire ecosystem of Razer peripherals.

The system is very simple, it is just a matter of installing or, where appropriate, updating the program to detect the device. After this, we only have to click on the device in the program and a configuration window will appear where we can modify the light intensity and access to Chroma Studio.

Within this, we will find all compatible peripherals, although we are only interested in our base. The customization is based on lighting layers, where we can add as many effects as we want and independently to the 15 addressable LEDs that we have in the base. It is represented by small green boxes that we can select one by one, or all together.

Set and final result

Let's see how the set consisting of the Razer Base Station Mercury and the Razer Kraken Mercury headset look.

In general terms, you cannot say that this set does not look good, all of them, products that match that fairly premium white color. And also with high quality finishes and features, both for the USB of the base and in the sound quality of the Kraken.

Final words and conclusion about Razer Base Station Mercury and Razer Kraken Mercury

We come to the end of the analysis, and what stands out the most, how could it be otherwise, is the design that Razer has implemented in these peripherals. A family of peripherals that not only ends here, but we have the Seiren 2019 microphone, two gaming mats with the Goliathus Chroma, the BlackWidow and Huntsman keyboards, the Lancehead, Basilisk and Atheris mice and the in-hear Hammerhead headphones.

Specifically, these two products are presented to us with identical specifications to their base models, with the same advantages and disadvantages. Perhaps in these exclusive ranges the manufacturer could take advantage of introducing small variations in addition to the color and improving certain aspects of the equipment. Although of course, these improvements are very subjective, what I like, you may not like.

We recommend the best gaming headphones on the market

What we can all agree on is that they are highly acclaimed products by brand players and enthusiasts. The Razer Kraken Mercury stands out for its excellent sound quality and great comfort and design, while the Razer Kraken Mercury is a base with triple USB 3.0 connectivity and Chroma lighting on the entire edge of the base.

All this family of products is available on the official website of the brand, just as it happened with the Stormtrooper series that we could also test here. The price of the base for the headset stands at $ 59.99, while the Kraken headphones are found for $ 79.99. They are identical prices to the base models, which is appreciated by being in quotes, a more exclusive family.
