Razer sila review in Spanish (full analysis)
Table of contents:
- Razer Sila technical specifications
Razer Sila comes stored in a rectangular cardboard box with the brand's corporate colors and a full-color image of the product. From the beginning it shows us that it is a router specially designed to play via WiFi. We do not have the physical measurements of the router, but it is a relatively small and very compact device.
On the back of the box, we can also see information about the device in full color, including the possibility of connecting three mesh routers to improve the WiFi range, its firewall and compatibility with all types of wireless devices. Just below we have a small table of characteristics.
For its part, the sides of the wrapper are completely green with some other information on them.
We open the box and find the product perfectly accommodated between elements of black polyethylene foam. Both in the front and back of the box we have two boxes where the connection cables for the router are stored. The instruction book is entered just below these items in the box.
Inside these boxes are, on the one hand, the voltage connectors for the router with two types of plugs available. On the other hand, we find an ethernet cable of category 6A, a very interesting detail by the brand, although we do not have a router with 10Gbps for which this cable is used, we will have a first-class cable for our equipment
We will also have a few stickers and the commented instruction book with several languages available and a very basic guide on how we should connect the router to the network.
We do not have the measurements or the weight of the Razer Sila, although it is a compact and quite light device. Its design is completely black with the company logo on the top. This logo will have the function of showing the user the connection status of the router . This way if its color is red it will mean that the WAN connection is not available, in flashing blue it will mean that it is being updated and finally in green it will indicate that the connection has been established correctly. The latter will be its final state.
Razer Sila is a passive router, so we will not have forced ventilation inside to cool the components. This is why it is a completely silent device and we do not notice its presence except for its illuminated logo.
In all the lateral areas of the router we can see how it has a mesh type design with air inlets and outlets. This will allow hot indoor air to leave the device through natural convection.
We must say that, after several days of use, and with the device turned on day and night and a high consumption of network, we have not noticed hardly heating, except for the lower part that we will now see.
At the bottom of this Razer Sila, we have four rubber supports to place it and other vents with the same design as those on the side parts. It is in this part where we have noticed the highest temperature, although very slightly compared to the ambient temperature. We can say that the cooling of the router is very good .
In the upper area we have the basic information regarding access to the router configuration and the name of the networks to identify them using WiFi. As usual, the access password will be " password ". We recommend changing these parameters as soon as we first enter the Razer Sila configuration firmware GUI.
On the back, we have the entire connection panel of this router, which is made up of the following elements:
- 3 x 1Gbps RJ45 ports for LAN connection 1 x 1Gbps RJ45 port for WAN connection Power plug via 12V round plug and 3AUSB 2.0 for file sharing USB 3.0 for file sharing RESET button and sync button
Looking a little more closely at the most important connections, we have that Razer Sila supports the protocols IEEE 802.11a, IEEE 802.11b, IEEE 802.11g, IEEE 802.11ac, IEEE 802.11n up to 400 Mbps, IEEE 802.11ac up to 1734 Mbps + 866 Mbps . The latter two being the ones we will use for the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz WiFi connections .
In this regard, we highlight the ability for this router to allow AC3000 connections in its 5 GHz band . It is precisely for this reason that the brand boasts of having designed a router with superior WiFi performance. Then we will check how far it can go. As usual we will also have support for connections with IPv4 and IPv6 protocols.
As we have already seen, we will have 3 Gibabit Ports to connect our physical equipment and 9 internal industrial-type antennas to make connections via WiFi. Perhaps it would have been bad for us to have an occasional antenna extendable to the outside to gain even more range. In the tests we have obtained a total length of 45 meters in a straight line with an LG G3 Smartphone, which is an excellent measure.
Finally, we cannot forget the Sync button that appears on this side of the computer. Its function will be to synchronize the routers that we connect to it to establish the WiFi mesh configuration that the brand offers. After connecting a second or third router, we will have to press and hold this button for 6 seconds so that all the devices are synchronized.
If we turn the view to the right, we find two ports for shared network storage. With Razer Sila we can connect both USB 2.0 and 3.0 to share our files directly from a storage device to the entire network range available to the router. The protocols we will work with will be Samba and FPT . A little later we will see the benefits in numerical terms.
In this area we will also have the classic and necessary RESET button on these network routing devices.

Razer Sila is the first router of the Californian brand to which we have had access. This promises upon arrival as attractive possibilities as the possibility of creating meshes joining 3 of these routers to achieve a wireless coverage of 8000 square meters or the possibility of reducing the latency of a WiFi network of both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz to play online.
The manufacturer of gaming products is betting on a market that has not yet been explored, such as providing a router specially designed for games. This router implements Razer FastTrack that allows prioritizing bandwidth for when we are using a large number of applications that consume network, in this way, we will always have the highest bandwidth available for our games. With a design in corporate colors, quick and easy installation and management through a very simplified interface, this Razer Sila has been going strong in this market. In addition, it has the FTP and Samba protocols that will allow us to share files from the USB 2.0 and 3.0 interfaces available on the router.
Today we will see in our complete review if it measures up in all the tests we are going to do and if it really meets expectations. Let's start!
First of all, thank Razer for trusting us to give us this product.

Internal features and firmware
We finish with the external part of this Razer Sila and we are going to enter a little more fully into its configuration possibilities and technologies that we have.
The web interface as we see is extremely simple compared for example with those that we can see on the Asus router. This is on the one hand positive for a better understanding for the user, although on the other we can also miss screens to monitor network parameters and device performance, something we see necessary in a gaming router such as this Razer Sila
One of the most significant features is the implementation of the QoS technology called Razer FastTrack. Thanks to it, this router will prioritize gaming applications at all times to obtain maximum performance in the area of entertainment. If this is the case, the device will intelligently manage the WiFi channels for the different connected devices, and will switch to different channels if they start to saturate.
We will have at our disposal connections in both 2.4 GHz for older network cards and 5GHz squeezing to the maximum the capabilities of the new portable gaming equipment. At a glance we can see these options in the firmware of the router.
The available encryption will be WPA and WPA2-PSK for access to the WiFi network. The protection level can be adjusted in the corresponding section in the wireless configuration section. We can assign a name to the network and change the access password.
Razer Sila also has a VPN connection and a Firewall that will allow us to safely isolate our network from access to external users. With this simple interface we can easily open the ports we want for access to remote services in the port routing section.
In the storage section, we can configure our router as if it were a NAS, although with obvious limitations. When we connect a storage device it will automatically be shared in our internal network. We will only have to go to the network section of our team to see the files stored in it. It is assumed that having a USB 3.0 interface We should have a speed similar to what we would get on our computer. We will see if this is true.
Razer Sila also has an application for Android and iOS through which we can access the settings of our device. Practically we can do the same as in the web interface from a simple graph that shows the physical connection scheme. We will be able to see connected equipment at all times, manage the credential parameters for access to the network and even perform a speed test of our connection.
Test of performance
As it could not be otherwise, we have subjected Razer Sila to all kinds of tests to see its performance in numerical terms.
Testing equipment
- 1-Device 1 (Ethernet connection): Intel I219-V2-Equipment 2 (2.4 GHz WiFi connection): Intel Dual Band I218-LM3-Device 3 (5 GHz WiFi connection): Intel 8265 USB 3.0 device for storage.
The first tests we will carry out will be to see the performance regarding the transfer of streams through iperf3. The connection for testing has been through team 1 and team 2 both acting as clients and servers. In the same way we have made the pairing between equipment 1 and 3 for WiFi 5 GHz
We must take into account that the network cards of the different
We must say first of all that in the 2.4 GHz tests the equipment was a little further away than in the 5Ghz tests. Even so, we see that Razer Sila is below routers from a few years ago like the Asus. Although it is true that it seems that as we move away the performance improves, we assume that due to the good antennas that this router has. But performance with devices right next to the router is still one step behind compared models.
The results obtained for Ethernet connection and 2.4 Ghz if it is good, came close to the theoretical of 1 Gbps and 400 Mbps in each case.
Let's now look at the tests on file transfer within the Windows 10 operating system
More or less the results coincide with the previous ones. Razer Sila is one step behind if it is about transfer with totally close teams. As they get farther away it seems that the performance is equated.
Once again, in transfers via Ethernet cable, it shows good results, remaining close to the theoretical 125 MB.
The next test will be with a USB 3.0 device connected to the router. We will check the data transfer capacity, both in reading and writing.
In this test we have received a negative surprise. We do not know if due to the fact that the firmware is still very green in this model or due to physical limitations of the router or the equipment used, for the tests, the truth is that it lags far behind other routers and much less reaches 168 MB / s that we have reached in a transfer with the US B connected to a physical computer.
We have also tried to perform latency tests by pinging from a computer connected to WiFi at 5GHz, both attached to the router and separated as in the other tests and we have obtained the following results:
Ping pasted equipment:
Ping remote computer:
The latency is considered to be somewhat high since 3 ms for a computer fully attached to the router is upgradeable.
Final words about Razer Sila
Razer Sila is the first router of the Californian brand and we have noticed that in terms of pure and hard performance it is still a little green. As for ethernet transfer we have not had any problem and it perfectly fulfills its mission. But this is not the case when we submit it to the tests of stream and file transfer.
The results could certainly be better, as we have said, perhaps the equipment used also influences, although assuming that we wanted to play with them, we would not obtain the results that other routers on the market offer. We hope that, in future firmware updates of this equipment, the performance will improve a lot, we must be patient as it is a new experience for the brand compared to others that are already more than established in the market.
But there are not only negative aspects in Razer Sila. We highlight the good performance that it has in connections with more remote equipment, in this aspect the 9 antennas do their job and allow us to have a very good performance, especially in 5 GHz which is what this equipment is designed for. The range of its antennas is also very good, almost 50 meters in a straight line, considering that it does not even have an external antenna.
Perhaps the brand should have more technical information about these and the other components that make up the computer hardware. The data sheet shows practically no information on RAM, CPU or the antennas themselves. The ping that we have obtained through the WiFi connection is low, around 2 milliseconds, it is not bad, but it is not totally reduced as we originally thought it would be.
We recommend you read the best routers on the market
In addition, its design has caught our attention, a very gaming aspect while elegant give us a sense of quality in its components. This together with its careful cooling aspect, are also very positive aspects to consider.
To finish, we must also touch the performance section regarding the transfer of files with shared USB 3.0 on the router. The truth is that they are very low and this should improve in the future.
Razer Sila is available in the market for 300 euros, which is a moderate price for a router with these characteristics. It is an attractive option, especially if we want to have three of them to form a network with a greater scope and better benefits. During game testing we have not noticed any LAG issues with games like Doom or NFS Payback.
