Razer continues to expand its portfolio of PS4 peripherals with the recent Razer Tetra, an ultralight single-ear chat headset featuring a professional-quality rotating cardioid microphone. Nowadays the vast majority of users are used to the typical double headband headphones that give us the best sound in our games, however, the company has wanted to launch these Razer Tetra for those players who own and enjoy using their sound equipment. and they just want headphones to communicate with their gaming gear. Hence, it has opted for its lightness and quality of components for long sessions of use. It only remains to check that it develops during use in the middle of a game.

Razer Tetra Technical Features

Unboxing

The front image of the Razer Tetra headphones and the white letters of the model name and company logos stand out against the full blue color of the box. The front also details some of its features such as its light weight, its rotary cardioid microphone or the reversible design. At the rear, with another image of the peripheral, some additional features such as its ergonomic construction, its reversible design or its audio control on the cable are pointed out.

Unlike other company products, the Razer Tetra comes in a packaging bag instead of padded foam. Obviously, being such a light product with few moving parts, it is difficult to damage it during transport. Altogether, inside the box we find:

  • Razer Tetra Headphones Quick Guide Razer Logo Stickers.

Design

The Razer Tetra, which has a complete design in black, have a thin lightweight plastic headband that can extend a little more than two and a half centimeters. Near this extensible area we find the Playstation logo printed in white.

At one end of the headband, only a small rectangular padding similar to eva rubber is mounted. At the other end is where the 6-centimeter diameter earphone with a 32mm diaphragm is mounted and is manufactured using a leather supra-ear pad and soft foam. This atrium has a response frequency of 20 Hz to 20 kHz, an impedance of 32 ohms at 1 kHz, and a sensitivity of 107 decibels.

Attached to this earpiece and without the possibility of separating it, we find the ECM type cardioid microphone that is capable of rotating 180 degrees. This allows us to be able to use the Razer Tetra reversibly in both the left and right ear. This microphone, which only receives sound from the front position from which we speak and not from behind, has a response frequency of 100 Hz to 10 kHz, a signal-to-noise ratio greater than 55 decibels and a sensitivity of more or less between - 41 and 3 decibels.

The microphone arm can be modified to adjust it to the position and shape that we want and it has a windbreak at the end to prevent blows of air. On the microphone docking station, in addition to a ringed design, the Razer logo can be seen in relief.

The cable that comes out of the earpiece has a length of 1.3 meters that ends in a 3.5 mm Jack connector. This cable includes an audio control that is formed by a wheel to increase or decrease the volume and a switch to mute the microphone.

Ergonomics

Thanks to the construction of its lightweight plastic components and its 70 grams of weight, the Razer Tetra is hardly noticeable when wearing it. The pressure exerted by the headband is just not to be excessive after a long period. On the other hand, the ear pad is fluffy and comfortable, although it covers the ear just enough and necessary. Being reversible, wearing it in one ear or the other is not a problem and after having played several games online in a period of about two and a half hours, the feeling of wearing the Razer Tetra on top was barely noticed.

Sound quality

Entering to assess the audio quality, we can not speak in the same terms as with a gaming headset specifically designed to listen to all the sounds and nuances that a game can give of itself. No, they Razer Tetra is basically made to have a conversation with our colleagues and this does it really well. In the tests carried out, the voice of our online companion could be perceived loudly and clearly, something that is appreciated in any multiplayer game. When performing the test to hear the sounds of the game, although it is something that does not really interest us much, we could verify that the sound range is somewhat flat and neither its high frequencies are so good, nor obviously we find low frequencies that stand out, but as I said, it is something that is not intended for this type of peripheral either.

On the other hand, the Razer Tetra's microphone also fulfills more than enough its task of conveying our messages clearly and precisely. Very useful is the ability of the cardioid microphone to not receive sound from the rear, so most of the sound coming from our front will not interfere with our voice. With surround systems, if the speakers are very close, if it can influence, but in our personal case we have had no problem speaking through the microphone, only when we set the volume of the game higher than normal.

Razer Tetra Conclusion and Final Words

The Razer Tetra headphones may not appeal much to the naked eye because of their simplicity, and are certainly not focused on those who want to enjoy the best sound of their games, but those who are used to playing with their friends while enjoying their sound system or home cinema. The Razer Tetra have a simple but lightweight and comfortable design that allows us to wear it for long sessions without discomfort, even without glasses, something that cannot be said of other usual helmets. In turn, the Razer Tetra offer the quality necessary both to hear clearly from others and to hear us as well as possible, which is ultimately what is required of them. There are few negative points to take out of this peripheral, even its recommended price of € 34.99 seems to us to be tight enough for what it offers, always taking into account what we are looking for.
