We already have the Realme 3 Pro Smartphone with us, with which the OPPO sub-brand has entered the European market. A terminal that we had the opportunity to see in its presentation in Madrid and which is located in the Premium mid-range with a price of 200 euros. It brings a very up-to-date design with gradient blue and drop-type notch to raise the usable area of your 6.3-inch IPS screen. And watch out, because it has a Snapdragon 710 processor and versions in 4/64 GB or 6/128 GB of RAM and storage.

Ready for in-depth analysis of this Realme 3 Pro ? We go there, because we have some surprises, positive and also less positive.

But before starting, we thank Realme for the delivery of this Smartphone and their trust in us to carry out this review.

Realme 3 Pro technical features

Unboxing

Realme 3 Pro has finally reached our market for sale, a terminal that we were able to touch on the day of its presentation in Madrid and that the manufacturer has now graciously provided us with a unit to carry out this test.

But, what would be the analysis of a Smartphone if a good Unboxing? Realme 3 Pro is presented to us in a hard cardboard box with quite large dimensions, we must say, and with very Premium and high-quality finishes. It is based on gray and yellow colors to present us make and model of the terminal along with some information on the back.

The opening system is the traditional one and upwards with both separable parts and it is in this way that we find all the accessories and the terminal on the inside of the bundle.

As in almost all current terminals, we have a system divided into three floors, always with the terminal performing on the first floor. While the case will be in the second and the charger in the third. Note that in this case the box is quite wide, which facilitates protection against knocks from the terminal.

The accessories that we find in the bundle are the following:

  • Smartphone Realme 3 Pro Transparent silicone case 20W VOOC Flash Charge 3.0 charger Micro-USB cable for charging and data Pin to remove the SIM tray User manual

And nothing else, we do not have any type of factory headphones, although in this case we have a 3.5 mm jack, so any we have at home will work perfectly for us.

Realme 3 Pro exterior design

Well once unpacked, we are going to see what this Realme 3 Pro offers us that reaches the European market betting on quite powerful hardware, a current design and an extremely competitive price.

And we cannot avoid remembering the Note 7 of Redmi when seeing its rear design, since this terminal has a gradient color in blue and purple, yes, inverted with respect to the mentioned terminal to differentiate itself. The manufacturer in this case has opted for plastic based materials instead of glass for this rear and also side, so be careful with scratches and falls.

Rounded edges have also been used for the corner finishes, although it is true that, if we bring the view very close, they are not completely smooth in their curvature, and it is an aspect that can still be improved for the final finish.

Realme 3 Pro has come to Europe available in three different versions, one in purple, the one we have, in gradient blue, more youthful and daring, and another version in black, more formal and serious.

As for the sensations to the touch, we practically do not notice if it is glass or plastic, since both in measurements and in texture the sensations are very similar, although if it is noted it is a lower weight. We are talking about measures of 156.8 in height, 74.2 mm in width and 8.3 mm in thickness with the included camera, in addition to a weight of 172 grams, which is quite little if we consider that the battery is 4050 mAh.

This is the advantage of having plastic, it allows us to have a slightly thinner terminal than models of the same range and a little lighter, down from 180 grams. Personally, it makes me a quite versatile mobile with a standardized aspect ratio of 19.5: 9 and quite comfortable in hand and pocket.

In the rear area we have some fairly rounded edges on all sides and a configuration of sensors on the left side approximately 1 mm out from the general plane. Both sensors and the LED flash will be located here.

Likewise, the sensor for the fingerprint reader is located in the central part and with a significant elevation, which will make it difficult for the index finger to reach in small hands if we take it from very low. A sensor that works very quickly and that we will discuss in more detail later.

On top of Realme 3 Pro, which we had not yet seen, it consists of a 6.3-inch IPS screen, with a good brightness and that allows us to clearly see its drop type notch, quite small and with smooth edges such and as it is used in the majority of current terminals. This display features a 2.5D border design at all four corners and is coated in Corning Gorilla Glass 5.

We can see that the frames are notable both on the sides and at the bottom, which gives us a percentage of useful area of 83%. It is very good, although in this range we are increasingly seeing better ratios that exceed 85%, especially with the inclusion of Pop-Up cameras.

Finally, on this notch we have the front selfie camera, the speaker for call and, although it is not seen in the photo, a small sensor on the camera that helps the very fast facial recognition that we have and the adjustment of brightness of the screen.

And we continue with the description of the sides of Realme 3 Pro, which, starting with the right side, we only find the power button or lock / unlock in a quite comfortable position, tiny and accessible to practically all users. Continuing with the top we only have the microphone hole, quite small and bare.

On the left side, we have some more elements of interest. Right at the top is the hole for powering and removing the dual Nano-SIM capable tray and Micro-SD memory card. It is a tray that will surprise us for being very deep and elongated. And just below the two volume buttons of the terminal have been installed, also in a good position and comfortable to use.

Ending with the bottom area, Realme 3 Pro has a very useful 3.5mm Jack connector for our analog headphones and full compatibility. But not so positive is the Micro-USB connector that the Indian manufacturer has installed to charge the terminal and connect it to our PC. And, at this point, not using a USB Type-C is a step backwards.

In this area there is also the only speaker on the terminal, a speaker that is heard loud enough, although not with a quality that can compete with higher-end mobiles or gaming terminals. So the sound experience will be very standard.

Something that is also striking is that Realme 3 Pro does not bring an external notification LED anywhere.

And we only have to see one thing about Realme 3 Pro, and it is the terminal with the silicone case installed. Although before, note that this terminal already comes with a plastic protector pre-installed on the screen, beware, it is not tempered glass.

Well, this silicone case is transparent with a dotted on the back in the style of Xiaomi and other Chinese manufacturers. The protection is very complete and the cover is of good quality and quite hard.

But there is something that I personally have not liked, and that is that at the top it has a huge edge protruding upwards. This makes it uncomfortable to talk on the phone and interact with the edges of the screen. In his favor I say that at least the protection against falls is much higher than that of other mobiles due to this great edge.

screen

We leave the design section behind to focus on its hardware and multimedia section. And we have to start with the screen.

Realme 3 Pro follows the market trend with a 6.3-inch IPS LCD panel with 19.5: 9 aspect ratio and offering a FHD + resolution of 1080 x 2340 pixels. This makes a pixel density of 409 dpi. It has a high level of brightness, although the manufacturer does not specify how much nits we are talking about.

Obviously it is a capacitive panel with 10 contact points that offers us great image quality with great contrast and excellent viewing angles in the case of IPS technology. As we have said, it is offered with a Gorilla Glass 5 anti-scratch coating and also has a Night Display color temperature adjustment.

This screen does not support HDR content, unless we know, nor have we been made aware of the color space it offers. Its refresh rate is 60 Hz, so at the end of the day, it is a screen somewhat normal for the range and with quality features as we expected from the OPPO sub-brand.

Security systems

And here we do have to break a lance in favor of Realme 3 Pro, because the security systems that have been implemented are very good and very fast. We dare to say that as much as those of a high-end mobile.

And we start with the fingerprint sensor located in the back, it is a little higher than expected, but the user quickly gets used to it. This sensor is the traditional one, nothing to introduce under the screen or in lateral areas. We practically unlock the terminal instantly by placing your finger, one of the fastest we have seen in a terminal in this price range, and much faster than, for example, the front sensors.

But we also have a very fast facial recognition system that is not what Android brings, but Oppo's own that works so well. This sensor uses the front camera and another element to also give us almost instant unlocks after pressing the side unlock button.

And it works not only in good conditions, but also in almost non-existent light conditions thanks to the adaptation of the screen brightness to help the sensor detect our face. Similarly, we do not have to stare, as it detects our face at a wide angle to the sides. We can choose to only unlock when we have our eyes open, and of course we have done the test with a photograph, and it detects that our real face is not perfectly.

Operating system and customization layer

The operating system that we have installed in Realme 3 Pro is Android 9.0 Pie along with Oppo's own customization layer, the well-known ColorOS in its version 6.0. It is not a very intrusive and aesthetically very clean and current layer. Personally I like it a lot and it is very well optimized and integrated with Android.

In this version 6.0 updates and improvements were incorporated in terms of Artificial Intelligence with greater battery savings and a complete facelift compared to the previous version.

A very important detail is the inclusion of the Hyper Boost function that is responsible for accelerating the performance of the terminal as necessary thanks to the Game Boost, System Boost and APP Boost sub-functions . In fact, a great novelty is the Game Space or " Game Space " app, whose use is oriented to games and allows us to customize certain parameters of games to improve their performance, being able to disable notifications, calls, etc. so they don't bother us.

Modes and applications like these are becoming increasingly fashionable on even mid-range mobiles like this, to be used in gaming, for example, with PUB, Pokemon Go, and the large number of games that are already available in the market for Smartphone.

It is a great detail to include these functions in this terminal, since its powerful hardware is capable of moving these games without any problem and giving us a great gaming experience without spending large amounts of money.

Realme 3 Pro hardware and performance

And what hardware do we have in a terminal that is only worth 200 euros? Well the less surprising, because a Qualcomm Snapdragon 710 processor with 8 cores, two Cortex A75 at 2.2 GHz and 6 Cortex A55 at 1.7 GHz has been installed, in 64-bit architecture and 7nm manufacturing process. This chip includes Adreno 616 graphics that offer great performance in fairly demanding games like PUB.

Along with this hardware, a 4 GB LPDDR4X RAM has also been installed in the version we are analyzing, although a 6 GB version is also available. Likewise, the storage space is 64 GB for our version, although it is also available with 128 GB, always expandable through Micro-SD memory.

We have taken the opportunity to carry out a series of performance tests or benchmarks with the AnTuTu, 3DMark and GeekBench applications, so that, in this way, we can see where this terminal can be compared to the competition.

Autonomy

The next aspect to analyze is autonomy, see how this hardware behaves together with the Android 9.0 operating system and the ColorOS 6.0 layer with Realme 3 Pro.

We have a fairly large battery, with no less than 4050 mAh that also supports 20W fast charging with VOOC Flash Charge 3.0 technology. we are in luck, since the included charger is precisely the fast charge with 5V / 4A. It is certainly not a high-performance fast charge, but 20W is enough to charge 50% of the battery in approximately 35-40 min approximately, as we have been able to verify.

We do not have wireless charging as is normal in this range of devices, but it is not something that we really miss. As for autonomy, we have been testing this Smartphone for a few days, quite intensively and we have had no problems to endure the whole day. We refer to being playing, downloading, watching videos on a fairly recurring basis.

If we make normal use of it, with a medium brightness, talking on WhatsApp, playing a few hours and taking photos, we have had no problems in holding two days and several hours. So these 4050 mAh will come as a fable, because manufacturers are making mid-range terminals with very good batteries, and Realme 3 Pro is not far behind.

Cameras

We have already warned that Realme 3 Pro is not a portent when it comes to cameras, in fact, we consider that it is not at the level of some devices that compete with it in this Premium mid-range.

Well, in the back area we will have a dual sensor configuration Sony IMX519 Exmor RS. The first one is 16 Mpx with a 1, 220 µm lens and 1.7 focal length. The second consists of a 5 Mpx sensor with 2.4 focal length for telephoto support. We also have a powerful white LED flash for short shots. None of these sensors has optical stabilization.

These rear sensors support portrait mode, HDR photography, 4K @ 30FPS video recording, and slow motion video recording at 960 FPS. Artificial Intelligence has also been included to improve the adaptability of the cameras for night mode and adverse conditions.

Regarding the front sensor, we have a single 25 Mpx with a 0.900 µm lens and 2.0 focal length compatible with portrait mode and that works excellently for facial recognition. And the truth is that this sensor has left us happier in terms of benefits for the selfie than the rear for normal photography.

As we can see, the results are quite discreet, both in the rear and front sensors. Speaking of the first, 16 + 5MP shows us some correct photographs in good light conditions, but with little detail in the images in general. The color is a bit overexposed, and in night mode we see that it is difficult to focus a little more, although we do not see any mottling.

As for the front sensor, we see a rather extreme portrait mode, where the background behind the user is too blurred and quite artificial. Also, in the presence of many people or close bystanders, it is difficult for you to choose the subject of the portrait.

In general, we expected a little more benefits from this Realme 3 Pro in the photography section.

Connectivity and network

And finally, we will attend to the connectivity section, which is very important in current terminals.

In this case, Realme 3 Pro not only has a double nano-SIM slot, but its removable tray will also allow us to install a Micro-SD card in a third slot. Wi-Fi connectivity, like almost all current mobiles, works under the IEEE 802.11 a / b / g / n / ac dual band standard and for 2 × 2 connections with MIMO. In addition, we have Bluetooth 5.0 LE.

This terminal also includes FM Radio, and GPS, A-GPS and GLONASS connectivity. For example, NFC connectivity has been left on the road, very useful for mobile payments, although the truth is that this mid-range does not usually bring it.

Final words and conclusion about Realme 3 Pro

We come to the end, and after a few days of using this terminal we can say that the feelings are quite positive in most aspects.

But starting with the design, we really liked it, although we were not too surprised because there are quite similar terminals on the market. The hand feeling is very good with its 19.5: 9 ratio and its low weight due to having a plastic finish instead of glass, although of course, be careful with scratches.

We appreciate the fact that it comes with a screen protector and also a transparent silicone case, but it has a really large edge in the screen area that makes it difficult to use and comfort when calling. It is available in Purple, Gradient Blue and Black colors.

Without a doubt one of the strong points is its hardware, since it is practically the first mobile phone that for 200 euros installs the Snapdragon 710 processor along with 4 GB of RAM and 64 GB of expandable storage with Micro-SD. In addition, we have another version with 6/128 GB. Its display is also at a great level with 6.3 inches and a drop-type notch with a good useful area of 83%.

Another very positive aspect that has really surprised us is the unlocking systems. Both the fingerprint sensor and facial recognition are at a very high level typical of the high-end. It is one of the things that I liked the most personally.

And we continue with its positive aspects, and one of them is also the autonomy, thanks to a 4050 mAh battery with 20W fast charge, we will have autonomies of 2 days without any problem in normal use, and one day if we vitiate PUB or others games. The ColorOS 6.0 layer on Android 9.0 Pie works fabulously with no performance drop and with the Game Space app to turn it into a gaming mobile.

As for other things that can be improved, we do not have a USB Type-C for data and charging, but an outdated Micro-USB. The provision of the rear cameras is correct, but they do not go from there, they are somewhat basic sensors in the days that run and they provide not too much detail to the photography. The selfie camera is not bad level, although the portrait mode is too exaggerated.

Finally, Realme 3 Pro can be obtained on the official website for a price of 199 euros for the 4/64 GB version, and 249 euros for the 6/128 GB version. Without a doubt an unbeatable price with this hardware if what you are looking for is power without being too demanding in photography.
