Everyone with a modern motherboard has some sort of Realtek chip in it, either for audio or for LAN connections. NAND drivers will also be released soon, and one in particular will already support PCIe 4.0.

Realtek Shares New New PCIe 3.0 and PCIe 4.0 SSD Drivers

It is not common in the company Realtek, but soon they will expand their influence within the PC market, and will include their own drivers for SSD drives. They also have a driver ready for the new PCIe 4.0 SSDs that are coming and are compatible with those AMD AM4 X570 motherboards.

That specific chip is the RTS5771 and is expected to hit the market next year. The driver will be based on the DRAM cache, however the perf is not yet known. The controller has eight NAND channels and a PCI-Express x4 interface with speeds of up to 1, 200 MT / s. This controller we should be seeing in many future SSD units that are going to come out this year and in 2020.

Realtek also launches an RTS5765DL controller, but this is prepared for the PCIe 3.0 x4 interface and supports four NAND channels and will therefore be a more conventional product.

There are other manufacturers that have also made drivers compatible with PCIe 4.0, such as Silicon Motion and Phison. Realtek will be a new protagonist who is ready to do battle in this field.

We are in a time of transition for SSD drives, where data transfer speed is being improved thanks to PCIe 4.0. Which makes us wonder if it is worth spending heavily on an SSD right now or waiting a few months. We will keep you informed.
