From the YouTube channel HDD Recovery Services, we are shown the process of how to recover data from a hard disk that fell to the ground and its owner wants to recover his data. The video is quite educational, as it explains how to repair damaged hard drives and retrieve stored information.

We warn you that it is not an easy task!

Repair process of a hard disk with a strong crash

In this case, we see a client's hard drive with 3 platters and 6 heads that are in charge of writing and reading the stored data. The person in charge of the repair process commented that the disc suffered a fall that basically left the 6 heads on the surface of the plates, so the procedure consisted of removing the 6 heads of the plates and replacing all the sliders with one of replacement.

We see that, in the repair process, quite detailed, the surfaces of the plates never touch, even using rubber gloves. To remove the dishes, a kind of vacuum cleaner is used at the base of the dishes and they are placed in another specially designed base so that the dishes do not touch any surface.

Once there , the heads that were left on the plates are removed with a special tool. The next step is to replace all the platters and replace the sliders with new ones from another 'donor' hard drive.

However, things were not so simple. Once the sliders and heads were replaced, the hard drive was still making noise at startup, so they diagnosed the drive as having a spinning problem.

Finally, what they decide to do is use the entire donor hard drive, that is, they removed all the dishes from the failed drive and placed them on the donor drive, which kept its sliders and the original base.

The disc ended up booting without problems. The WD PC3000 utility was used to prepare and view the content. The hard drive was fully recovered and the data was saved.
