Redmi note 7 review in Spanish (full analysis)

Redmi Note 7 is the new creation of the independent division of Xiaomi, and it will surely take over the wish list of users who want a powerful, well-designed and above all cheap terminal. After the barrage of orders made in these first weeks with availability in Europe, Professional Review has also had access to it, Snapdragon 660, Adreno 512, glass finishes and a 6.3-inch screen with drop notch, and 4000 battery mAh, it's the welcome sign for this Redmi Note 7.

Will it really be as good as the reviews say, is it the best choice in the entry range? Right now we'll see it here, so let's go there!

Redmi Note 7 technical features

Unboxing

Redmi Note 7 has arrived on the market to ventilate all its possible rivals in this entry range, always so competitive and with so many models available. But we believe that what this terminal offers is undoubtedly the best and at a price very difficult to beat by anyone. If you decide that this is your range, few better options will you have.

As always, we start with the packaging of this Redmi Note 7. A box that continues the trend of the brand in terms of presentation. We have thick cardboard, very thick, and measures that are practically those of the mobile phone, because it fits right into it. On the outside we only have the predominance of white with the Xiaomi logo, model and a band in clearly visible orange colors.

Inside this small box we have the following elements:

  • Redmi Note 7 USB Type-C - Type-A cable for charging and data 5V2A charging adapter (normal version) Transparent silicone case Instruction books and features Pin to remove the SIM card tray

We see that it is not bad. The cable is about 70 cm in length, general trend in this type of connectivity, and we appreciate the detail of including the spike for the tray and of course the transparent silicone case to show off our mobile.

This time the headphones are conspicuous by their absence. Being a terminal with a 3.5 mm Jack connector, a set of headphones would not have been bad, we did not ask for some wireless, but some basic ones, yes.

External design

This is where Redmi has done the most work on its Note 7, it is a phone with a truly exquisite design and, by no means, reflects the price it really has, at least not for those who do not know a priori this mobile. To start, we have measures of 75.2 mm wide, 159.2 mm high and 8.1 mm thick, and a weight of 186 grams.

It is not the thinnest mobile of the brand, but neither is it the thickest, with the Redmi Note 6 pro and especially the Redmi Note 5 being somewhat less corpulent. Especially if we take into account its 6.3-inch screen and its 4000 mAh battery, we believe that for this price it is more than optimized. The weight on the other hand is not too low, but it does not reach 200 grams, so it is a great option for the female gender.

In this case, the screen has smooth 2.5D edges and a useful surface area of 81% in 19.5: 9 aspect ratio, which is not bad either, and which is largely due to the drop-type notch implemented by this Redmi Note 7. Really adjusted to the front sensor and of symmetrical type, very aesthetic and with very good finishes on its edges. Even so, it is not the best ratio, since terminals such as the Mi 8 or Mi 9 present a better one, but again we must consider the price, and few terminals offer such a percentage.

Talking more about this area of the screen, we still find small frames both above and below where there is no screen, very small, but existing. In the lower area, the space has been used to place a really small notification led that is difficult to see. It cannot be configured in color or in animations, it is simply white.

In the upper area we find the 13 MP sensor in the central area next to the proximity sensor and the loudspeaker for calls, completely located in the upper edge, very concealed and stylized. Of course, Corning Gorilla Glass 5 has been used to protect it.

The back of the Redmi Note 7 has incredible design work behind it as you can see. Although it is true that we find the typical edges of other terminals of the brand, in this case all separation lines disappear, to have a completely smooth panel and finished in glass with a bright color gradient starting light below and dark finishing above.

Really Premium design and also available in Blue colors, as is the model of our analysis, in black and red, although more than red, it is an electric pink that will delight girls more "cute".

In this rear area we find the fingerprint sensor located exactly in the central area just like the previous versions, and placed at a very correct height to have accessibility with the index finger while we pick up the terminal. In a lateral area, and also following the design trend of the previous models, we have the double camera arranged vertically, and the Dual LED flash just at the bottom. We must say that the camera area is quite out, more than in other terminals and that it could reach two millimeters. It stays out even with the silicone case in place and is something to keep in mind, especially to take care of this area of falls and scratches, even with Gorilla Glass.

We continue with the side areas of the Redmi Note 7, which in this case has been cut a little in costs and are made of plastic, instead of metal or glass. Despite this, it has a shiny finish identical to that of the rear area, with rounded edges and very pleasant to the touch and with good grip. Due to this design it is quite a bit slippery terminal.

In the lower area we have two openings on the sides, although only one of them has a speaker, which we must say sounds spectacular, and that we will see better in the video analysis. And the USB Type-C connector located in the central area with fast charge option 4 although this function is not provided by the charger implemented as standard.

We moved to the side areas of Redmi Note 7 to see what we find. In the left area we only have the removable tray for the double Nano-SIM or a SIM plus a Micro-SD memory card of up to 256 GB. And in the right area, because we have the volume buttons and also the on and off button, so nothing out of the ordinary.

We finish with the upper area of this terminal where we have the microphone with noise suppression, the infrared sensor to configure a remote control, for example, and to the delight of many, a 4-pole 3.5 mm Jack connector for audio and micro. This connector is really appreciated with the tendency to eliminate it in almost all high-end terminals.

Finally mention that this terminal does not have resistance to water or dust, something quite understandable, since even the Mi 9 does not.

screen

We are going to talk more about the screen that this Redmi Note 7 brings, which is extremely interesting and with a level that once again ranks as one of the best in its range. We then have a 6.3-inch IPS LCD panel screen that works at a FullHD + resolution of 1080 x 2340 pixels. This makes a pixel density of no less than 409 dpi, so we won't be able to tell them apart unless we're less than 5 cm away and myopic. We then continue to maintain a panoramic 19.5: 9 aspect ratio.

This screen is capable of offering us a color depth of 84% NTSC, with a contrast of 1500: 1 and 450 nits of maximum brightness. They are really good credentials, although as usual, we will not be able to reach the level of an AMOLED screen in either color or brightness. However, for the price we handle, it beats many of its rivals. The colors look very well saturated and the brightness is quite good, although not stratospheric.

An important aspect in an IPS screen is Bleeding, although it is much more controlled in terminals than in monitors, and we are still not aware that problems of this type have been reported by users. Of course we are facing a capacitive screen with 10-point Multi-Touch, scratch resistance with Corning Gorilla Glass 5 and curved finishes in 2.5D. Also noteworthy is the adjusted drop-type notch that increases the useful surface ratio up to 81%.

The viewing angles are very correct, both top and side, and we have no doubts about the capacity of an IPS panel. As extra adjustments, we have the traditional night mode and reading mode, in addition to the possibility of modifying contrast and colors.

Operating system and security

As expected in a new model, although it was not top of the range, Xiaomi has implemented Android 9.0 and its MIUI 10 customization layer with its advantages and disadvantages.

MIUI 10 is a layer with a very careful and intuitive appearance and accessibility. We have the presence of original volume and brightness bars, a redesigned quick icon bar including access to the FM radio, remote control, scanner, etc. The presence of typical Xiaomi applications, such as direct access to its store and other functionalities, is also not lacking, which are actually more useful in the Asian country. And there are quite a few that we have, so this layer will take up a lot of space in our internal memory.

Another of MIUI10's enhancements is optimization with fluidity and battery performance and autonomy. With intelligent resource management, emphasizing security options such as access by applications to terminal resources or different unlock options, which do not include facial scanning, which are very present today, and that we will miss a lot.

Always controversial, especially in the notch era, is the notification system. In this Redmi Note 7 we have it disabled, or at least invisible at the top, it is supposed to save battery power. In addition, it seems quite difficult to activate them, since, by default, MIUI 10 identifies notifications and automatically suppresses them. They are, but they are not. Maybe a clean layer like Android ONE would be a very interesting option too, but we don't have it.

We do have a fingerprint sensor, and Redmi has done an excellent job on it, a very accessible and truly fast situation. Again the option of placing the sensor behind the screen will only be available for high-end terminals.

Hardware and performance

Now we will see why this Redmi Note 7 is also unrivaled in this entry range. And it is that again we are facing a very balanced Smartphone and with a very successful hardware, which today will provide us with excellent performance and power to practically do anything, even play.

We have inside a Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 MSM8976 Plus CPU with 8 cores and 64 bits, 4x Kryo 260 working at 2.2 GHz and 4x Kryo 260 working at 1.8 GHz. The chip dedicated to graphics, therefore, will be Adreno 512. The RAM that we have will be in two versions, either 3 GB or 4 GB LPDDR4. A Note 7 Pro version with up to 6 GB of RAM and 128 GB of storage is expected, but it is still unknown for sure if it will arrive in Spain. The storage configuration of Redmi Note 7 is 32 or 64 GB eMMC 5.1, which can also be extended by 256 GB more through the expansion slot and a micro-SD card. The fluidity of the system is fantastic and the performance in games very remarkable.

The result we have obtained with AnTuTu Benchmark on Redmi Note 7 is 144, 161 points, thus placing it above terminals such as the new Samsung M20, The Xiaomi Mi A2, and of course the old Note 5 and 6 which is not bad at all. We have tested it in some racing games and others to see its performance and we have been completely satisfied with this hardware.

The battery is also up to the task with a capacity of no less than 4000 mAh Li-Polymer. During the use that we have given it, which was not exactly little, we have obtained autonomies that have sometimes exceeded 6 hours of screen use, in navigation, photography and configuration tasks of our favorite applications. The combination of hardware, screen and battery is really balanced and one of the best we have had in terminals in this range.

Redmi Note 7 supports Quick Charge 4.0 that will provide us with a full charge cycle in just under an hour, at least on a fast-charging USB. We say this because the charger included in the purchase pack is the standard 5V and 2A, without this function available. And no, we do not have a wireless charging option, which is also reserved for higher cost terminals.

Cameras

The dual rear camera of the Redmi Note 7 is made up of a 48-megapixel Samsung S5KGM1 ISOCELL-type sensor with 1.8 focal length aperture and a pixel size of 0.8 microns. The secondary supporting camera has a 5 megapixel Samsung S5K5E8 sensor with a pixel size of 1, 120 microns, and that we already find in other models of the brand. We also have a Dual LED flash of acceptable power and of course video recording capacity in 4K and 1080p in Slow Motion at 120 FPS.

These sensors have autofocus capabilities and digital image stabilization along with the brand's innovative Artificial Intelligence technology to improve the quality and exposure of the captures we take. We have HDR support that will make life a lot easier in combination with AI, especially in night scenes.

For practical purposes, the resolution of the image captured in " high quality " (remember that Xiaomi offers Low, Medium and High settings) is 4000 x 3000 pixels, that is 12 MP. This can be easily seen through the image file properties.

The operation is more than satisfactory, although it is true that it does not reach the quality of the models with the highest cost on the market, we have a magnificent image quality and a very good dynamic range. The software improvements that Xiaomi has implemented in this and following models, give us a much improved result, especially in color saturation and night mode, with little noise, except in especially complicated scenes, so HDR and AI are one substantial improvement for this Redmi Note 7. We can see by increasing the images the capacity of these front sensors.

For its part, the front camera mounts a 13-megapixel Omnivision OV13855 sensor in a wide-angle configuration and 2.2 focal aperture. Its pixel size is 1, 120 microns and in this case we have neither front flash nor unlocking through facial recognition. We see here that the capacity of the front camera to show detail does not reach the level of the rear ones, although it is more than acceptable and with very good definition.

The image definition is quite good and thanks to the AI again the photos are quite good even in complicated scenes. In any case, they are more than worthy and sufficient benefits to have a great photography experience with this mobile.

Connectivity

We have great news for those who buy this Redmi Note 7, since we can even make calls with it. Surely a day will come when manufacturers forget that the final purpose of a mobile is to make calls with both introducing functionalities and hardware of beastly powers.

In short, the case is that the connectivity we have is excellent. It incorporates Bluetooth 5.0 LE, Wi-Fi 802.11 a / b / g / n / ac at 5 GHz and 4G and an infrared sensor as the main connectivity. But we do not forget the GPS, A-GPS, Beidou and GLONASS navigation systems. In this case it includes FM Radio, OTA Sync, VoLTE, Wi-Fi Direct and function as Wi-Fi access point. But we don't have NFC, and it's pretty much the only thing missing.

We will have Dual SIM capacity in Nano-SIM size in its removable side tray, or in your case a Nano-SIM + Micro-SD. Regarding physical connectivity, we already know that it has USB Type-C and a 3.5 mm Jack connector.

Final words and conclusion about Redmi Note 7

We come to the end of this analysis, in which we more or less show that it is a practically invincible mobile in quality / price. Obviously we have mobiles with more features, of course, but let's focus on its range and its characteristics. Starting with the design, there is almost no doubt that at first glance, it seems like a more expensive mobile than it really is, the use of glass and the original color gradient is practically unique. Also, the feel of the touch and the grip are great.

Regarding size and weight, we are already quite used to it, and a 6.3 ”screen is the general trend today. Along with the 4000 mAh battery it makes a fairly standard weight of 186 grams. We won't be able to keep it in a pocket, but we didn't expect to do it either. The autonomy is fantastic, with almost 7 hours of screen and a really optimized MIUI 10 layer and low consumption.

Thanks to highly powerful hardware we will have a smooth experience in navigation, games and configuration. We recommend in any case the 4 GB version of RAM; and 64 GB of storage, much more balanced and with an extra performance. The image quality of the IPS screen is very good, although it still lacks a bit of brightness, and the camera's features are outstanding. You can see the presence of the best software and the incorporation of HDR and artificial intelligence, so for an average user they are more than enough.

We do not forget the sound that, even if it is a single speaker, is heard clearly, very loud and with enough quality, even more than superior terminals. Infrared capability, 3.5mm Jack jack and FM radio are much appreciated.

As for aspects that we miss, we have the absence of NFC connectivity and wireless charging. Although surely this is not as necessary as the absence of facial recognition, very fashionable now and clear system to be the standard against the fingerprint, which, in this case, we do have. We were also expecting a bit more from the notification LED, very basic and too small, and the absence of fixed notifications in the notch.

All this will make sense if we have what to pay for it, and this Redmi Note 7 is really cheap. Its current, and also official, price is 199 euros in most online stores such as PCComponenentes, Phone House and also in the official Xiaomi store in its 3/32 GB version at 189 euros.
