The ASUS GTX 780 DirectCU II OC has just landed in Spain with its new Direct CU heatsink and a custom PCB with 10 supply phases.

Regarding the frequencies, the clock speed has been increased to 889 mhz and boost 2.0, it maintains the memory speed at 6000 MHz GDDR5 and includes a backplate to offer us better dissipation and aesthetics.

Asus GTX780 Direct CU II in front of the camera

It maintains the same format and protection as in the 600 series. Along with the card you will receive:

  • Asus GTX780 Direct CU II OC graphics card. Instruction manual and driver on a CD. Molex thief to Pci Express. SLI bridge.

The aesthetics of the heatsink have enchanted us. It has decent dimensions to frame: 29.2 x 12.9 x 4.3 cm and the new Direct CU II cooling system with a much more dynamic and aggressive appearance.

The first thing that strikes us is the fan on the left that has special bearings. This technology is called CoolTech FAN and GTX780 Direct CU II and is the first graphics card to incorporate it. This system allows more heat to be extracted at the same speed as another fan. We leave you a video demonstration.

I don't know if it will be the best GTX780 in the world… but it has all the details that should be asked of it.

Among its external connections we have a Display Port output, two DVI and one HDMI.

In the lower right corner we have the PWM connection where the two fans are connected. This allows for hardware and software regulation.

In addition to the backplate, it also includes a metal bar that prevents it from bending due to its high weight, it also lowers the temperature of the memories and in turn helps a pleasant aesthetic.

We have a 6-pin connection and an 8-pin PCI Express connection to power the graphics card and raise its overclocking a little more. eye! that we can have peaks of up to 300W. So, it is recommended to install a good power supply. I liked the detail of the connectors, which are inverted because this way, their installation is easier.

Asus has done a great job with its heatsink. First we win in aesthetics, breaking molds but with a touch of elegance. They have improved the thickness of the five heatpipes to 10 mm and their nickel-plated copper base.

Although it is not a Matrix card or from the ROG range, it includes three solder points for motorization and voltage measurement or voltmodding.

The GTX780 Direct CU II includes high-end memory: Samsung K4G20325FD-FC03 GDDR5 designed to run at 1500mhz (6000mhz effective).

Voltage regulation circuits is cooled by a small heatsink.

Here the chip in charge of regulating the voltage, it is cooled by a small heatsink.

The processor chip is the GK110 that contains 7100000000 transistors with 28 nanometer process in TSMC.

To evaluate the performance of the graphics card we have used the following applications:

  • 3DMark11.3DMark Vantage.Crysis 3.Metro 2033Battlefield 3

All our tests have been carried out with a resolution of 1920px x 1080px.

What are we looking for in the tests?

First the best possible image quality. The most important value for us is the average FPS (Frames per second), the higher the number of FPS, the more fluid the game will be. To slightly differentiate the quality, we leave you a table to assess the quality in FPS:

FRAMES BY SECONDS

Frames for Seconds. (FPS)

Gameplay

Less than 30 FPS Limited
30 - 40 FPS Playable
40 - 60 FPS Good
Greater than 60 FPS Fairly Good or Excellent

Let's not fool ourselves; there are games that can have an average of 100 FPS. It may be because the game is quite old and does not require excessive graphic resources or that the graphics is the most powerful on the market, or we have GPU systems for thousands of euros. But the reality is different, and games like Crysis 2 and Metro 2033 are very demanding and do not usually give high scores.

conclusion

The Asus GTX780 Direct CU II is a high-end graphics card with dimensions 292 x 129 x 43 mm, high weight and 3GB of memory. It incorporates many new features, we started with its new Direct CU II heatsink with a very aggressive and sporty aesthetic. Although the most notable is the "CoolTech" fan technology that includes a blade and special bearings that allow better heat removal and thus offer greater efficiency in heat dissipation. A custom PCB with DIgi + VRM and Super Alloy Power that will provide us with 30% less electrical noise and multiplies 2.5 times the longevity of the graphics card.

Regarding performance, it is beyond doubt that it is the best GTX 780 we have ever played. We have used the new Intel i7-4770k platform and with a strong overclocking 1134/1186 (boost) in the core and the memory at 1667 mhz we have achieved the chilling figure of P14750 in 3dMARK11, placing us in hwbot among the best. The temperatures at rest are 31ºC and the maximum yield is 67ºC.

We highlight its GPU Tweak software that allows us to monitor and modify in real time all the parameters of the card: voltage, speed of clocks, temperatures, fans…

In short, if you are looking for a quiet, powerful GTX780 with a large overclock margin. The Asus GTX780 Direct CU II is your graphics card and its price can be found in online stores for only € 595. It is clear that not all pockets can afford it, but it is next to the GTX Titan the most powerful monoGPU on the market.
