Few differences are found with its previous review:
- Includes adapter for Socket AM2 / AM2 + / AM3 / AM3 + Compatibility with 140mm fans. New clips for fans. Best temperatures: 1 or 2 Cº.
The heatsink does not include fans, to give the user the option to choose the one that best suits their needs: 12 or 14 cm, speed or PWM.
The Megahalems comes preset in a more modern box. Includes full compatibility with current Intel and AMD sockets. Revision C incorporates compatibility with 120 and 140mm fans.
As we can see it comes perfectly packaged and resistant to any blow.
The box includes:
- Prolimatech Megahalems Heatsink Revision C. Screws. Intel LGA and AMD adapters. 4 fan clips. Thermal paste. Instruction and installation manual.
The heatsink maintains the same dimensions: 130 x 74 x 158.7 mm
Its blades are fine but of an indisputable quality. An aesthetic beauty that few heat sinks can say.
It has 6 aluminum heatpipes with 6mm thickness.
The base is nickel plated. With a perfect finish.
It is essential to have the entire installation kit on hand: plates, hardware, rubber bands, and rivets.
It also includes 4 clips for the installation of fans of 2 sizes: 120 / 140mm.
How we are going to install the heatsink in socket 2011. We will need its special screws. They can be purchased from the "Where to buy": http://www.prolimatech.com/en/where/index.asp?itemid=22#bottom for less than € 1. If you want to get it in Spain you can ask www.prosilentpc.com.
First we install the 4 screws to socket 2011.
Then we add the two side bars and screw them on.
We apply the thermal paste, add the third bar and screw in the two main screws.
And we already have the heatsink installed for a passive setup.
And so it would be installed with two fans in a Sabertooth X79:

To test the actual performance of the heatsink we are going to stress the CPU with prime numbers (Prime95 custom) and two 12cm Phobya fans. Prime95, is a well-known software in the overclocking sector and allows us to detect faults when the processor works 100% for long hours. Why won't we use Linx? Socket 2011 is not currently optimized, and I would make the effort.
How are we going to measure the processor temperature?
We will use the internal sensors of the processor. For this test on Intel processors we will use the “Core Temp” application in its version: 0.99.8. It is not the most reliable test, but it will be our reference in all our analyzes. The test bench will be around 22ºC ambient temperature.
Let's see the results obtained:
The new revision C of the Prolimatech Megahalems few improvements, but very necessary. The first that we must highlight is its compatibility with socket AM3 without the need to purchase the kit separately.
WE RECOMMEND YOU Streacom DB4 receives a passive heatsink for graphics cardsNow allows installation of 120mm and 140mm fans. This opens up a wide range of possibilities for our needs. We also liked the new clip system for fans and its new screws that improve its performance between 1 or 2ºC.
The Megahalems' performance has been fantastic with two 1500 RPM Phobya fans. The chosen processor has been the powerful i7 3930K at 4, 600mhz: 32º in idle and 71ºC with Prime95 custom.
We would have liked Prolimatech to include the socket kit 2011. But you can buy it from the "Where to buy" for less than € 1 or from Spain at www.prosilentpc.com. (READ NOTE)
In short, the Megahalems Rev C is one of the great heatsinks on the market. Capable of serving for users looking for a passive heatsink or for users looking to get one more turn out of their processor. It can be found in stores for € 55.
UPDATE / NOTE: We are informed by Prolimatech that they will include the screws for LGA 2011. Great gesture!
