ASUS officially launched its Crosshair VIII Impact motherboard, which comes in the particular Mini-DTX format. This format should be able to add some additional functionality compared to the Mini-ATX format.

ROG Crosshair VIII Impact is available for $ 450

The ROG Crosshair VIII Impact draws power from a combination of 24-pin ATX and 8-pin EPS connectors, conditioning power for the AM4 socket using an 8-phase VRM. The AM4 socket is connected to a pair of DDR4 DIMM slots, the card's only expansion slot, a PCI-Express 4.0 x16, and the SO-DIMM.2 slot. The latter is a SO-DIMM slot that has been rewired with PCIe gen 4.0 that contains two M.2-2280 slots with PCIe 4.0 x4 and SATA 6Gbps cabling each. Four 6 Gbps SATA ports take care of the rest of the storage connectivity.

The motherboard area just below the PCIe x16 slot has another proprietary slot that contains a SupremeFX Impact IV on-board audio solution, which has been physically isolated from the mainboard, and has an EMI shielded Realtek ALC1220 main CODEC, ESS Saber ES9023P DAC for the main stereo channel, a doping circuit and audio capacitors.

The cooling system consists of an elaborate heatsink system similar to that of the ROG Strix X570-I Gaming, which is located near the rear I / O area, and uses a pair of fans for active cooling. The board uses a metal back plate for additional heat dissipation. Among the connectivity are mentioned: 802.11ax Wi-Fi 6 WLAN, Bluetooth 5.0 and Gigabit Ethernet, all of them under the controllers of the Intel brand.

The ROG Crosshair VIII Impact motherboard is now official and ASUS believes it could fit some ITX configurations, with its contained dimensions of 203mm x 170mm. Its price is about 450 dollars.
