The overlocking team at the Brazilian publication Teclab has successfully transplanted memory chips from two RTX 2080 Super graphics cards to an RTX 2080 Ti to do what would be equivalent to an ' RTX 2080 Ti Super'.

Teclab team of overclockers create a custom RTX 2080 Ti Super

As we know, the RTX 2080 Ti is equipped with 11 GB of GDDR6 memory registered at 1, 750 MHz (14, 000 effective MHz) that reaches 14 Gbps. On the other hand, the new RTX 2080 Super has 8 GB of GDDR6 memory with capacity for 2, 000 MHz (16Gbps); however, it operates at 1, 937 MHz (15, 496 effective MHz). Basically, we are facing a 10.7% difference in memory speeds between the two Turing graphics cards.

There is a disparity between the two graphics cards. The RTX 2080 Ti uses 11 memory chips, while the RTX 2080 Super only has eight. This is why Teclab had to disassemble two RTX 2080 Super graphics cards in order for his experiment to work instead of just one. The team also did not use reference models, but rather the Galax models totaling $ 3, 400.

What the overclocker team did is extract 11 memory chips from the two RTX 2080 Super, and place it in the RTX 2080 Ti. This process requires a lot of skill and the necessary tools, since all the memories must be desoldered with great care so that they are not damaged, nor does it damage the printed circuit board. All this process can be seen in the video.

Teclab noted that the RTX 2080 Ti Super started perfectly with the memory of the RTX 2080 Super. The vBIOS of the graphics card accepted the new memory without problems and ran it at 1, 750 MHz, so there was no need to modify the BIOS. In the end, the team was able to overclock the memory to 2, 150 MHz (17, 200 effective MHz or 17.2 Gbps), which represents an increase of 22.9% and 10.7% over the default memory of the RTX 2080 Ti and the RTX 2080 Super, respectively.

Unfortunately, Teclab has not thoroughly tested its "2080 Ti Super" to see how it works with faster memory. The team only provided a few results in the Superposition tool, where the graphics card scored 11, 460 points in the 1080p Extreme preset. The RTX 2080 Ti usually scores between 8, 600 and 9, 200 points in this test.

If this could have been created by a couple of overclockers in their 'laboratory', it would not be very difficult for Nvidia to launch a similar model with faster memories in the future. We will keep you informed.
