AMD and Bethesda have a strategic agreement to promote their series of processors and graphics cards in games such as Fallout 4, DOOM, Dishonored 2 or Wolfenstein 2: The New Colossus, and precisely this is the first game that really benefits from this agreement, offering a performance advantage with AMD graphics cards over NVIDIA's.

RX VEGA cards increase your advantage against NVIDIA

The video game was recently updated with a patch that solved some stability problems, especially with the 10 series of NVIDIA graphics cards, which when applying V-Sync caused the computer to restart (yes, as well as they hear it), among other problems.

It turns out that this patch also brought with it some 'hidden' benefits, such as a performance improvement with RX VEGA series graphics cards, which increase by more than 20% in this video game. This extends the advantage that the RX VEGA 64 offers over the GTX 1080 in Wolfesntein 2: The New Colossus, as can be seen in the graphic, with patch and without patch.

Comparison with different Wolfenstein 2 patches

As you can see, the performance improvements on NVIDIA cards are practically nil. We don't know if this is because VEGA has a greater optimization margin than NVIDIA graphics, or if Bethesda is giving AMD some sort of added advantage for its strategic deal.

With the latest patches we have also seen that the Polaris architecture (RX 500 & RX 400) also received a 10% improvement, while the Pascal based graphics only 3%.

Anyway, Wolfenstein 2 developed based on ID Tech 6 is not the best optimized game we have seen, falling too many FPS according to what levels, very different from what DOOM was in 2016.
