Ryzen 5 1500X vs Core i7 7700 is a very interesting comparison since they are two processors in equal cores and threads, both the Ryzen 5 1500X and the Core i7 7700 have in their die four cores activated with multi-thread technology to be able to handle up to eight threads of data. So the only differences will be in the operating frequency and the microarchitecture.

Both processors have been put at a speed of 4 GHz and have been attached to a GeForce GTX 1080Ti, the most powerful graphics card for gaming today. As we can see the Core i7 7700 is superior to its rival although not as much as it may seem, there are cases in which the difference is quite bulky worse in others as soon as both processors are different.

This is because Ryzen's greatest weakness is the high latency of memory access by the Infinity Fabric bus and its DDR4 memory controller, in the event that AMD manages to improve these two elements in future versions it will be much closer to match your rival's performance in games.
