Several reports from the web, mostly posted on the Intel forums, point out that some users with Intel Core i7-7700 processors are experiencing random spikes in the chips, causing the coolers to operate more intensively than normal.
Although only the i7-7700 processor was originally thought to suffer from these issues, it now appears that the K-model (i7-7700K) also goes through the same thing, according to the Intel forums.
Temperature spikes in Intel i7-7700 and i7-7700K processors
Based on the data collected to date, it appears that some users are seeing temperature peaks that reach as high as 90 degrees C (out of 100C maximum). Meanwhile, others have even gone as far as to say that they have replaced Intel's thermal material to proceed to run the CPUs under water-cooling solutions, only to find out later that such temperature spikes were still occurring despite everything.
In the face of all these user complaints and concerns, the response provided by an Intel official on the company's forums was as follows:
“We appreciate the feedback provided and the patience you show as we investigate this matter. The reported behavior of seventh generation Intel Core i7-7700K processors that record momentary temperature changes versus temperature during the downtime is normal when completing a task, such as opening a web browser or program.
In our internal observations we have not observed any temperature variation outside the expected behavior and the recommended specifications. To see the processor specifications, please take a look at the Intel Core i7 7700K Processor Product Specifications."
On the other hand, the company also states that “we do not recommend going beyond the specifications of the processor, such as increasing the frequency or voltage, or eliminating the integrated heat diffuser. These actions would void the processor warranty. ”
In short, the company ensures that users are most likely to have these problems with their Intel Core i7-7700K Series processors because they have overclocked it, something that Intel does not recommend, although the most curious thing is that they claim that all those who Overclocking would be left without warranty for the processor, something that is not usually the case for Intel CPUs.
