More powerful AMD Ryzen 4000 APUs have been detected a day after the first chip was leaked in 3DMark. The new processors, which are part of the APU Renoir family , are the AMD Ryzen 9 4900H and Ryzen 7 4800H.

Ryzen 9 4900H and Ryzen 7 4800H are 8-core, 16-wire processors

Both processors with more cores and threads are expected to launch in early 2020. The AMD Ryzen 9 4900H and Ryzen 7 4800H are 8-core, 16-thread processors using 7nm Zen 2 architecture and faster Vega graphics.

Yesterday we could see some models of the 15W Ryzen 4000 U-series with the leak of the Ryzen 7 4700U. Today, we are seeing three models totaling 45W, all of which have some strong specs and will compete with Intel's ninth-generation laptop models. Details come from the Mobile01 forums where a user has revealed the Ryzen 9 4900H and Ryzen 7 4800H APUs.

The Ryzen 4900H and Ryzen 4800H are said to have 8 cores and 16 threads. There are no other detailed specs, but this is double the cores and threads compared to the existing line of third-generation Ryzen APUs. The Ryzen 7 3750H has 4 cores and 8 threads. This puts AMD on par with Intel's Core i9 H-series product line. These two chips, the Ryzen 9 4900H, and the Ryzen 4800H all perform the same as the Core i9-9880H which is a chip with a 2.30 GHz base clock and boost clock up to 4.80 GHz. It shouldn't be surprising. if both chips end close to the Core i9-9980HK, which has a +200 MHz boost clock.

This shows that AMD's Zen 2 architecture doesn't need clock speeds to keep up with higher-speed Intel processors, and the IPC advantage is enough to bridge the gap. It is also claimed that the power consumption on AMD Ryzen 4000 APUs will be significantly less than that of Intel chips, however the density of 7nm APUs would cause a slight spike in temperatures. So we can expect a bit of high-power cooling in gaming laptops that use these chips.

In addition to the aforementioned processors, a Ryzen 7 4800HS seen on the upcoming ASUS GA401IV laptop has been listed. The Ryzen 7 4800HS appears to be a power optimized version of the 4800H, offering lower clock speeds with slightly lower power consumption. The laptop also comes with 16GB of DDR4 memory, Windows 10 and supports a 14 ″ screen. We will keep you informed.
