With a design taken from some science fiction movie, Samsung presents its new 49-inch monitor with curved screen Odyssey G9.

CES 2020 hasn't started yet, but that hasn't stopped Samsung from previously unveiling its Odyssey series of QLED gaming monitors, which come with the world's first 1000R curved displays with 240Hz refresh rates.

Research suggests 1000R curved displays have the optimal level of screen curvature for productivity, perfectly matching the peripheral vision of humans at standard desktop distances. With a 1000R curvature, this monitor is designed to be within 1000mm of the user's face, making it ideal for most desktop or office setups.

Samsung's new Odyssey G9 monitor offers users a huge 49-inch screen with a resolution of 5120 × 1440 pixels (1440p double width) with a DisplayHDR 1000 rating and support for refresh rates up to 240Hz. This display also offers users a 1 millisecond response time and is compatible with AMD FreeSync 2 technology, in addition to being G-Sync compatible.

With such a high resolution and refresh rate, the monitor should use the DisplayPort 1.3 / 1.4 port to maintain the required bandwidth levels of the screen.

At CES 2020, Samsung plans to showcase its 49-inch Odyssey G9 display alongside two G7 models, each featuring 2560 × 1440 (1440p) resolution and DisplayHDR 600 certification. Both G7-series displays also feature with a refresh rate of 240 Hz and FreeSync and G-Sync compatibility.
