Samsung already works on 3-nanometer processors
Table of contents:
Samsung produces its own processors, which we see in the international versions of many of its phones. The Korean brand is one of the most important companies in this market segment. For this reason, they now announce their intention to make an important leap in this field. Since they have started the process of manufacturing processors in 3 nanometers.
Samsung already works on 3-nanometer processors
They are not expected to hit the market soon. But it is an ambitious plan for the Korean brand. Processors that would arrive with reduced energy consumption, up to 50% less, according to the company.
New processors
To manufacture them, the gate-all-around process will be used, which is a variation of Nanosheet MBCFTET, which allows increasing the current with less energy loss, at least compared to what is currently used.. This would help a reduction of 45% in area, in addition to a lower energy consumption of around 50%, as has been known.
On the other hand, these new Samsung processors should be more powerful than the current 7 nanometer chips. 35% more power is expected in this case. Although at the moment the Korean firm does not have 7 nanometer chips.
In 2020, Samsung's first 5 nanometer chips should arrive. So these first 3-nanometer processors will most likely take a couple of years more. It is estimated that they could be official in 2022. Although it is still early to know when they will arrive. The company will surely tell us more as time passes.
