TSMC is about to start construction of its new 5nm factory in the South Taiwan Science Park, the same place where its 3nm manufacturing factory will be built in 2020.
TSMC takes the lead in the process at 7nm
TSMC President Morris Chang will preside over the next pioneering ceremony which will also be the last before his retirement. TSMC has taken the lead in starting mass production of chips at 7nm, which involves overtaking Samsung and taking all orders to manufacture all processors for future iPhone devices in the 7nm process. TSMC is not satisfied with it and wants to put its foot in the door of the 5nm production as soon as possible.

According to TSMC's roadmap, the 5nm factory will start a test in the first quarter of 2019 to start mass production in 2020. Beyond that, the company has moved hundreds of engineers towards the R&D of the 3nm process and its manufacturing plant with this process is scheduled for official execution in 2022. The 3nm factory is expected to attract aggregate investment funds of around $ 25.69 trillion.
