Microsoft edge death confirmed

It is something that had been talking about for days and has finally been confirmed by Microsoft itself, those of Redmond have decided to cancel the development of their Microsoft Edge browser, which will continue to exist, although in the form of an alternative based on Chromium.

This means that the new browser will retain the Microsoft Edge nomenclature rather than separate from the brand, although it will be a totally different browser that will have little to do with the current one, at least in terms of its internal technology. Microsoft is committing to the open Chromium backbone, and will build on its database to contribute to a more open Internet. The idea is to offer more frequent updates and, of course, to reduce engineering and coding efforts to keep an internal browser updated, and safe against all kinds of Internet threats. However, no one knows if Microsoft's efforts will bring it a higher market share than the current 4%.

Microsoft Edge arrived in 2016 as the successor to Internet Explorer, a browser that became the king in market share, but had already been completely out of date and with many problems at the internal code level, so it was time for retirement and bring new blood.
