Skylake xeon processor revealed
Table of contents:
We know that Intel is preparing new Xeon processors based on the Skylake architecture, more precisely the Skylake-EP family, with which they promise to improve performance, consumption and add more processing cores.
Intel Xeon Skylake-EP is discovered thanks to some tests in Geekbench
In tests published by the Geekbench application, it has been possible to verify the existence of new Xeon processors of no less than 32 physical cores and 64 threads, which make the new Intel CPU a true beast of processing at the server level.
The CPU based on Skylake-EP works with a speed of 2.30GHz, this might seem like a low speed, but it must be taken into account that the more cores a processor has, the less frequencies they can reach, although in this case the amount of cores that can do more tasks at the same time. The amount of L3 cache memory would rise to 46MB.
The test yielded one result of 52, 958 points in multi-thread performance and 3, 854 points in single-core performance. In both cases, 64-bit Linux was used as the base system to perform this benchmark.
Another detail that may be known about the new Intel Xeon processors is that it adds support for AVX 512 and the new Storm Lake Omnipath Architecture interconnect.
The new Xeon Skylake-EP processors are expected to be launched during this year 2017 to fight against AMD and its Naples architecture, which will also offer 32 physical and 64 logical cores, in a server market where Intel is dominating from end to end.. Is it possible that the Naples launch has precipitated the appearance of the new Xeon ahead of schedule? We will keep you informed with everything that comes up.
