The low-power Ryzen U series has had a major impact on the notebook market. Ryzen processors with integrated Vega graphics are undoubtedly a very attractive alternative to the low-power variants of Intel. Now AMD is ready to go to the next level, with the arrival of Ryzen H processors ; Ryzen 7 2800H and Ryzen 5 2600H for high performance notebooks.

Ryzen 7 2800H and Ryzen 5 2600H have 4 cores and 8 threads

If there was one thing AMD was missing it was high-performance notebook processors, something Intel did with its Intel Core HQ and HK series.

Both Ryzen 7 2800H and Ryzen 5 2600H processors appeared in 3DMark's database and were tested on an HP 84EF device, which could be a prototype laptop or desktop test rig. Technically, it doesn't matter, as AMD itself confirmed that the H-series processors are high-performance notebook processors.

AMD Ryzen U - Ryzen H 2000

Model Cores / Threads Clock Base Clock Turbo TDP GPU
Ryzen 7 2800H 4C / 8T 3.4 GHz ? TBC RX Vega 10?
Ryzen 5 2600H 4C / 8T 3.3 GHz ? TBC RX Vega 8
Ryzen 7 2700U 4C / 8T 2.2 GHz 3.8 GHz 15W RX Vega 10
Ryzen 5 2500U 4C / 8T 2.0 GHz 3.6 GHz 15W RX Vega 8
Ryzen 3 2300U 4C / 4T 2.0 GHz 3.4 GHz 15W RX Vega 6
Ryzen 3 2200U 4C / 4T 2.5 GHz 3.4 GHz 15W RX Vega 3

The two Ryzen 7 2800H and Ryzen 5 2600H processors have 4 cores and 8 threads. So far there are no signs that there is a Ryzen H processor with more cores.

Interestingly, the Ryzen 5 2600H appears to be 30% faster than the Ryzen 7 2800H in physics tests, which resulted in 5% higher overall score, surely this is because the 2800H was operating at a lower clock speed. 3DMark is usually not too precise in determining frequencies. Both platforms used the same Radeon RX 550 (RX 540X) graphics card.

What remains to be seen is how it will behave against high-performance chips from Intel, in a market where it dominates widely.
