Sharkoon Skiller SGK1: technical characteristics

Sharkoon Skiller SGK1: unboxing and analysis

The Sharkoon Skiller SGK1 comes to us in a presentation quite similar to that seen in previous brand products, we have a cardboard box with a design in which the corporate colors of the brand predominate, among which black and blue stand out. On the front we see an image of the keyboard as well as the layout it presents, this time we find a distribution of USA keys, something that should not be a problem since it will not prevent us from making good use of the keyboard at all.

In the back, all the characteristics of the keyboard are detailed, among which we find a palm rest, a high quality design with the upper part reinforced in aluminum. This time we have the unit with Kailh Brown mechanisms that are characterized by providing feedback to the user at the time the pulsation is registered, it is therefore non-linear switches although they are very smooth in operation.

Something that we miss is a window that allows us to test the buttons before going through the box, a detail that we will understand perfectly as it is a keyboard that seeks to be one of the cheapest solutions on the market and the manufacturer has made a significant effort to cost reduction.

We open the box and we find the keyboard protected by a transparent plastic bag and two pieces of foam that are responsible for accommodating it and preventing its movement until it reaches the hands of its end user.

It is time to focus our eyes on the keyboard, the Sharkoon Skiller SGK1 is a unit with dimensions of 458 x 220 x 44 mm and a weight of only 1, 300 grams. A design that makes this keyboard a unit with a weight similar to many other mechanical keyboards that we have seen and that is of a great quality from the first moment.

As for the mechanical switches, these are the aforementioned Kailh Brown, some off-road mechanisms that are usually the most recommended for their good performance in all scenarios, whether for writing or playing, they will perfectly fulfill their mission. These mechanisms have an activation stroke of 2 mm and a maximum stroke of 4 mm with an activation force of 45 grams. They are quite soft mechanisms and with a structure that provides us with feedback at the moment the pulsation is registered. The Kailh Browns have a life of 50 million keystrokes so we have a keyboard for a long time.

We continue with the characteristics of the keyboard itself and we find an ultrapolling of 1000 Hz and Anti-Ghosting technology with 26 n-Key Rollover (NKRO), this means that the keyboard is capable of detecting the simultaneous pressing of up to 26 keys without reaching to collapse. We also found a total of 12 multimedia keys to access the most common controls in a very comfortable way. Finally we highlight the presence of the gaming mode that will prevent us from accidentally pressing the Windows key. In the back we find two folding plastic legs that allow us to slightly lift the keyboard for greater comfort of use.

We emphasize that the keyboard has a palm rest that gives us greater comfort when using it for long sessions, how bad it is part of the structure and we cannot remove it.

The Sharkoon Skiller SGK1 presents a white backlight system that we can regulate in intensity and light effects to leave it as we like, we have several light effects among which we highlight some as popular as static lighting, wave effect, breathing, sweep and others. Best of all, the lighting is controlled without the need for any special software so we can manage it in all operating systems.

Its cable has a length of 1.8 meters and at the end we find a gold-plated USB connector to improve contact and protect it from wear. The cable is not meshed but we understand that once again the tight price has not allowed it.

Final words and conclusion

A good mechanical keyboard has not had to be expensive for a long time and the Sharkoon Skiller SGK1 is further proof of this. We have a fully designed keyboard that includes the numeric keyboard so there will be no problem for users who need to make intensive use of it. Beneath the keys are the Kailh switches that are probably the most popular after the acclaimed Cherry. This unit mounts the Kailh Brown and after several days of use I can affirm that they work really well and have little or nothing to envy the most expensive Cherry, their operation is very smooth and precise and they do not present any type of problem. We also highlight 1000 Hz and 26 n-Key Rollover (NKRO) ultrapolling technologies for flawless operation.

We continue with a lighting system that is only in white but we can configure it in various levels of intensity and various effects, although surely the most practical for most users is to leave the static light on all the keys on. To test its performance we have used the usual working environment (office automation, graphic design and video and programming), the performance there is very nice. Currently, there is a lot of competition between mechanical keyboards to play . But without a doubt the Sharkoon Skiller SGK1 is one of the best on the market and on top of that it does so with an irresistible price.

The Sharkoon Skiller SGK1 is for sale for an approximate price of 75 euros in its different versions of mechanical switches.
