SilverStone Redline RL05 technical features

Unboxing and Exterior

The SilverStone Redline RL05 comes to us in a cardboard box with the usual dimensions for this type of product, the box is very well protected by several pieces of foam and a plastic cover to avoid any type of damage before reaching the hands the client's.

The SilverStone Redline series aims to offer users the best features of the highest-end chassis but at much more competitive and affordable prices, something that is clearly demonstrated in the SilverStone Redline RL05.

We find the following bundle:

  • Silverstone RedLine RL05 box Instruction manual or quick guide Screws and flanges for installation.

This PC chassis offers us such interesting features as great cooling thanks to the presence on the front of two 140mm fans with LED lighting to give it a more attractive touch and generate a positive air pressure. The design of the chassis will also minimize the accumulation of dust inside, thus maintaining a cleaner air flow to the main hardware components of our new computer.

One of the most differentiating features of the SilverStone Redline RL05 is its large plastic side window that will delight even the most foodies by offering the possibility to see all the hardware in operation. We also observed an attractive front with the two red trims that break the monotony that would create a completely black design. Along with the trims we have the front panel where we find a pair of USB 3.0 ports, 3.5mm jack connectors for audio and microphone , the power and reset buttons and finally a brand new USB 3.1 Type-C port.

We continue to see the exterior of the chassis and we come to the rear where we can install a 120 mm fan that will take the hot air out of its interior to create an excellent flow of clean and fresh air next to the two cooling fans. 140 mm that are located on its front (we will see later) .

We also find the classic seven expansion slots that ATX form factor chassis like this usually feature.

To finish the exterior area we still have to comment on the floor of the box. It consists of four plastic legs, an outlet for the power supply to breathe and a filter to prevent dust from entering the box.

SilverStone Redline RL05 Interior

It is time to look inside the chassis, once we remove the large tempered glass window we can access the inside of the box where the first thing we see a matte black design and its distribution will help us to greatly improve its design.

The Silverstone RL05 is compatible with the two most important ATX and micro-ATX motherboard formats on the market and incorporates a total of 7 expansion slots. Many of you may be wondering: What compatibility does it have with heatsinks, graphics cards and PSUs? It allows us to install heatsinks with a maximum height of 16.5 cm so we will not have problems with installing a quality refrigerator.

We can install the best graphics cards with a length of up to 37.33 cm and power supplies with a length of up to 22 cm. It is very difficult to find a computer component that is not compatible with this new Silverstone box.

It incorporates a set of cables: two USB 3.0, typical cables for the control panel and AUDIO HD connector.

Regarding storage, we have a cabin for hard drives that allow us to install up to two units regardless of whether they are 3.5 ″ or 2.5 ″, which are located next to the power supply.

These units are added to the 5.25 ″ bay in which we can place an optical drive or a controller for the speed of the fans. It may seem very scarce that we can only install two hard drives but the truth is that most users do not have more drives on their PC so for most it will be a success that has been sacrificed in this regard to gain space for others chassis elements. Hard drive bays allow us to install them without the need for tools.

Already in the lower part we find the hole for the installation of the power supply, this is the most suitable position since it allows the heat generated to be expelled directly without affecting the rest of the components, just as it would if it were in the upper part.

It is important to note that the area of the power supply has a total plastic coverage to isolate our hardware even more from the heat that it generates in its operation and especially the design of our equipment.

We now look more closely at the cooling possibilities and we come across the two 140 mm fans located in the front, these are especially important since they increase the positive air pressure which prevents excessive dust accumulation inside, which can seriously damage the cooling of our hardware. To these two fans is added the possibility of installing an additional 120 mm at the rear and two more than 120 mm or 140 mm at the top of the chassis to help extract hot air from inside.

Liquid cooling fans will be able to mount 120mm, 140mm and 280mm radiators making it compatible with a large number of AIO solutions on the market. 240mm radiators are excluded due to the way in which the holes for mounting the fans are placed, of course you can always make your own holes but this is already outside the specifications of the chassis and what the user receives.

Experience and assembly

Now it is time to share our experience in assembling the new Silverstone RedLine RL05. The assembly has been really easy although the distribution of the wiring has cost us a little.

One of the buts has been not being able to camouflage the 3-pin cables of the front fans, slightly breaking the beautiful aesthetics of our interior.

In our case we have assembled an AMD FX8370 processor with its new AMD heatsink, AMD RX 480 reference graphics card together with a 1000 Watt 80 Plus GOLD power supply. The results have been very good, but we miss the incorporation of a 120 or 140 mm fan in the rear area to expel all the hot air.

The lighting is great and if your components are red with RGB effects it is tremendously cool. Finally, I would like to tell you that the gap in the power supply, if it is as long as ours, I recommend connecting the cables you are going to use first and then insert the source, instead of the other way around. It will avoid suffering your fingers and above all time.

We really liked the final aesthetic. What do you think? Do you like it

Final words and conclusion

Building a high-end PC is a complex task that requires a careful selection among the different components that the market offers us. One of the fundamental components is a good box that allows us to install all the elements inside it and offers us good possibilities for expansion in the future so as not to be short on space.

The SilverStone Redline RL05 tries to fulfill all of the above. As you already know it is an ATX box with compact dimensions and a fairly light weight. Its final aesthetics and the cover for the power supply make the design pleasing to the eye and allow good organization of the wiring.

Cooling and silence are also two key elements when choosing a chassis for our team and the new Silverstone RL05 offers us to install a good artillery of fans and filters.

Without a doubt we will take it into account for the new update of Advanced PC Configuration / Gaming on our website.

It is not yet a very common box in online stores, but for example in Aussar it is already available. Its availability is immediate and its price is about 77 to 80 euros. We believe that it is one of the best quality / price options on the market.
