Qualcomm's Technology Summit is scheduled for today in Hawaii, but details of the Snapdragon 855 have been unveiled ahead of the official announcement. This processor has several characteristics that we did not know previously, and that we find most interesting for new devices.

Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 details

According to journalist Roland Quandt on WinFuture, Qualcomm discussed the company's first commercial platform to support 5G connections, with its Snapdragon X24 LTE modem on the Snapdragon 855. Internally, the Snapdragon 855 is called the SM8150, so almost everything the world had to believe that the official SoC name would be Snapdragon 8150. The report also mentions a dedicated NPU, which should provide up to three times more performance than Qualcomm's previous chips. However, the category in which the performance increase would be seen has not been mentioned.

WinFuture also introduced a feature called " Snapdragon Elite Gaming", which will likely increase the performance of Android games. In terms of photography, we are bound to see an improvement there as well. A specialized computational vision engine is expected to process photography data, to help create better images and videos from smartphone cameras. The Snapdragon 855 will allow future flagships to improve considerably when it comes to low-light photography compared to the Google Pixels, the current kings in this regard.

As for the GPU, the Snapdragon 855 will sport an Adreno 640, but its performance metrics were not provided. Upon arrival at the processor, the SoC will have a triple CPU cluster, with a high-performance core at 2.84 GHz, while three-performance will feature a clock speed of 2.42 GHz. As for the efficient cores, there will be four of them running at a speed of 1.78GHz.
