Speccy: what is this program and what is it for?

We continue with our misadventures explaining various programs of greater or lesser impact on the network. Today we will talk about Speccy , a program created by the Piriform group and that probably sounds like they created CCleanner .

What is Speccy ?

If we look at the definition given by the Piriform team itself, Speccy is a program designed mainly to offer us information about our team.

Its functionalities are very similar to those of HWMonitor , but with a much more interactive, complete and intuitive interface . In addition to that, Speccy offers us more detailed information in many of the fields and we can see some graphics in real time.

Unlike other programs from the same company, Speccy is completely free software . It was born with the goal of offering new users all the information on their equipment in a simple way and it is something that it more than meets. But on the other hand, it also allows the most advanced to obtain valuable information.

Since we have mentioned HWMonitor , we will compare some aspects to show you some of the benefits of Speccy , one of its successors:

• To start, we have a main window called Summary where we see the summary of everything we have, something much cleaner. On the other hand, when we extend a component in Speccy , the information given is much more complete and personalized. In addition, the data is properly labeled and easy to understand. Finally, we have to mention that we not only have data from components, but also from different software such as the Operating System or network drivers.

As you can see, it is a certainly superior application in some key points, so we urge you to try it. We are missing some extra functions such as being able to compare data or markers in the graphs, but, in general, the experience it offers us is excellent.

There is a Pro version, although it only has some minor improvements such as more information or automatic updates.

How to navigate through Speccy ?

Although it is much more interactive and intuitive, we are going to take you on a short tour through the program in case you are having problems.

We will start with the most superficial things, that is, the main options and buttons.

Main screen

To start, we will show you the same main screen: Summary . In this window we have all the main data of our team and the following highlights are shown:

In addition, in both corners we have two relevant data. In the lower left corner is the version of the program, while in the lower right corner we have the search for updates.

The version is only indicative of which one we have installed, but Check for updates is a clickable button that will take us to the download website. There they will tell us if we have the latest version or not and we can download it if not.

On the other hand, in the upper bar you will see three buttons, of which we will explain their functions.

Main Options

In the first section (File) we have everything that has to do with saving data.

Here you can see how we can compress and display blue groupings. They will be marked with an arrow and most will already be expanded, but in some cases not.

If you have a watchful eye, you may have noticed that some values ​​change between the two images. This is nothing other than updating the program's real-time data.

Finally, the last point to highlight is the small green grid icons. If we press any of them, we are shown a graph that evolves over time.

As negative points, we must emphasize that it is difficult to read, we lack markers to know the magnitude and we cannot open several at the same time. Of course, these are features that would greatly enhance the usefulness of Speccy .

Final words on Speccy

One problem that is not really an application failure and that we have not mentioned is that a direct access to a CCleanner installer is 'pre-installed' . This program is the best known of the Piriform group and has its strengths, although this propaganda seems a bit aggressive to us.

Also, its installation process is not the simplest since you will have to dodge applications that try to sneak into your computer and the odd intrusive ad.

Regarding everything else, it seems to us an almost perfect application . Speccy is a visually appealing, intuitive program and has a lot of features and data, so we strongly recommend that you give it a try. If you need to undermine information about your equipment or just like to be aware of what you have inside the box, this program will serve you perfectly.
