Steam adds pre shader

Shader pre-caching is a feature that most of you will remember from the Call of Duty series and that helped improve loading times. Steam surprisingly has released this functionality with its latest update for all those games that implement OpenGL and Vulkan within its Steam platform.

Shader pre-caching will improve load times in OpenGL and Vulkan games

The Shader pre-caching functionality can be applied to all games under OpenGL and Vulkan and with it it seeks to improve the loading times of the games. The 'trick' is to download a game's preloaded shaders, which will be compiled for a specific graphics card. With this we managed to save our team from the burden of loading the shaders, which will already be loaded previously, improving loading times. This function also solves the stuttering (or stuttering) of the image, which prevents games from running smoothly enough in certain scenarios.

The new Steam update is now available

In contrast, having Shader pre-caching activated also means an increase in the bandwidth consumption of our Internet connection. This shouldn't be a problem for those with a good ADSL connection, but we know that doesn't apply to all users. Valve has thought about this and we can activate or deactivate this option from the Steam settings.

A similar feature was implemented already in DirectX 12, and now OpenGL and Vulkan benefit from this feature thanks to Steam. Possibly this is not very funny to Microsoft, which until now was the only one that implemented it in its DirectX 12 API.
