To "test" Ryzen 3000 processors, AMD worked with Blur Studios to see how their next-generation processors can accelerate the workflow of professional-quality cinema visual effects.
Blur Studio is the company behind some of the visual effects seen in Terminator: Dark Fate, Love, Death + Robots, and many of the League of Legends animated shorts.
So what was the performance impact of the third generation Threadripper? At best, Blur Studios VFX Supervisor Dan Akers claimed that some tasks were accelerated from 5 minutes to 5 seconds, highlighting the impact a product like Threadripper can have on specific tasks. That said, Akers never indicated what type of system Blur Studios used for these tasks before, and it seems likely that this change in performance was due to factors other than raw processing power.
The advantages of these new processors are the wide I / O options, many CPU cores and a large number of memory channels. With PCIe 4.0, fast DDR4 memory, and up to 32 CPU cores (assuming Blur Studios uses Ryzen Threadripper 3970X from AMD). This allows users to speed up their workflows with increased CPU computation and through improved I / O functions.
