3rd Generation Threadripper, amd promises more information 'soon'

At Hot Chips 2019 , AMD CEO Lisa Su was asked about the third generation Ryzen Threadripper, with journalists seeking a potential release date for AMD's high-end desktop processors.

Lisa Su's response ranged from "Soon" to "Less than a year, " and she later stated that AMD will post more information about Threadripper sometime in 2019.

Threadripper sits atop AMD's current lineup of Ryzen AM4 series processors, using the company's largest TR4 socket with more cores, memory channels, and PCIe tracks (or lanes). AMD's 6-16 core 3rd generation Ryzen processors can be impressive, but with Threadripper the number of cores / threads could be even higher.

Intel is expected to launch more X299 processors as part of its Cascade Lake product line, but the AMD team plans to take the high-performance crown with its third-generation incoming Threadripper processors. AMD already offers up to 32 cores on TR processors, but the benefits of AMD's Zen 2 designs will minimize the drawbacks of original multichip designs to create an attractive offering of updated products, with higher IPC performance and more cores.
