Toshiba will buy Lite-On to improve its position in the SSD market
Toshiba's plan is to increase its NAND flash sales by expanding the sales channel. The company can take advantage of Lite-On's partnerships with PC manufacturers like Dell and HP and improve the design and production of its data center SSDs by acquiring the Taiwanese company. In addition, Toshiba, which plans to rename it to Kioxia in October this year, can enhance its brand image by using the new name of SSDs for individual customers.
Meanwhile, Toshiba recently announced that it is working on 5-bit-per-cell NAND flash memory (PLC). The new product is expected to increase the company's productivity thanks to the production of more chips in the same area and the reduction of costs. Samsung Electronics is currently producing NAND flash memory using 4-bit-per-cell (QLC) techniques. SK Hynix released QLC NAND flash memories in May of this year.
