Toshiba Announces Three New 64-Layer Nand Bics Memory-Based SSD Disk Families
Table of contents:
Toshiba has added three new families of SATA and NVMe SSDs based on its advanced 64-layer NAND BiCS memory technology, which enables a high storage density to be achieved in order to make the final product cheaper.
New Toshiba 64-layer NAND BiCS memory drives for the professional sector
These new Toshiba products are CD5, XD5 and HK6-DC SSDs. Available in multiple formats, these SSDs are designed to provide infrastructure managers with the performance they need to excel under the demanding workload profiles of data centers, and offers less operational power for read-intensive applications. including NoSQL databases, Big Data Analytics and transmission media.

The CD5 series is offered in capacities ranging from 960 GB to 7.68TB in a U.2 form factor. The performance of these units in 4K random operations amounts to up to 500, 000 and 35, 000 IOPS in reads and writes, while the sequential speed reaches up to and up to 3, 140 MB / s and 1, 980MB / s, all with a power range of 9-14W.
We now turn to the XD5 series, it uses an M.2 22110 form factor and comes in capacities up to 3.84TB. It offers a performance of up to 2, 600 MB / s and 890 MB / s in sequential reads and writes with a power of 7 W. These drives are designed to boast low latency and performance consistency in read-intensive workloads and are specifically targeted at the Open Compute Platform (OCP).
Finally, the HK6-DC series arrives in a SATA III 6Gb / s format and is available in 960GB, 1.92TB and 3.84TB capacities. It is promoted as a low-latency optimized, read-intensive SSD, which can deliver up to 85, 000 random read IOPS, as well as up to 550MB / s in sequential read performance.
All these disks have protection against power loss and cryptographic erase support. In addition, the new data center SSDs take advantage of 256-bit AES data encryption to securely encrypt data without the performance impact associated with software-based solutions.
