With the expansion of the Internet of Things and cloud storage services, the volume of data is getting bigger and more businesses require higher capacity and higher performance hard drives for their data centers.

For this reason, Toshiba has now announced the launch of an 8TB SATA model for its 3.5-inch MG05 series of hard drives, enterprise-class hard drives that will begin commercialization starting today.

Technical specifications of the new 8TB MG05 HDD

The new 8 terabyte hard drive offers a 33% increase in the maximum available capacity on the MG04 series of hard drives, which was 6TB. In addition, it also provides approximately 12% more data speed, reaching transfers of 230 MB / s.

On the other hand, the new hard drive also comes with an improvement of 42% of its MTBF (acronym for Mean Time Between Failures or Average time between failures), reaching a total of 2 million hours before running the risk of suffering some malfunction.

All of these improvements in capacity, speed and reliability contribute to a lower total cost of investment for buyers, according to Toshiba's announcement.

The new hard drives also support native 4K (4Kn) and 512e industry advanced format technologies for use in the latest generations of servers and data storage systems.

The latest IDC report lists Toshiba as one of the fastest growing hard drive vendors in recent years. In the fourth quarter of 2016, the company had a market share of 24%.

In February 2017, Toshiba's hard drive production volume exceeded 10 million units, and at this time the company continues to work to offer new products for both businesses and private users.
