Toshiba Introduces The World's First Enterprise-Class SSD With 64-Layer 3D Flash Memory
Table of contents:
Toshiba recently announced two new SSDs, the TMC PM5 12 Gbit / s SAS and CM5 NVM Express (NVMe) series. The development of the new units is expected to be completed in the fourth quarter of this year, and both products are built on an enterprise class BiCS FLASH2 TLC memory with 64 layers and 3 bits per cell.
TMC PM5 12 Gbit / s SAS and CM5 NVM Express, Toshiba's new enterprise-class SSDs
With storage space of up to 30.72 TB in a 2.5-inch design, the TMC PM5 series will enable data centers to cope with high storage demand. Additionally, this series of new SSDs feature the MultiLink SAS architecture, allowing it to deliver the highest performance seen so far on a SAS-type SSD, with sequential read speeds of 2, 720 MB / s in MultiLink mode. and up to 400, 000 random read IOPs.
Additionally, the new PM5 SSD also provides multi-stream writing technology, a feature that intelligently handles and bundles data types to reduce write amplification and minimize garbage collection, leading to increased resistance and reduced latency.
On the other hand, the new PCIe Gen3 x4 CM5 SSD also has support for multi-stream writing technology and also comes with the CMB (controller over buffer) function, which uses a part of the DRAM in the SSD as system memory, leading to a higher operating speed.
The CM5 series will also offer read performance of up to 800, 000 IOPS and up to 240, 000 IOPS for writing on the 5 DWPD9 and 220, 000 random write IOPS for the 3 DWPD, both with a maximum power consumption of 18W.
The PM5 12 Gbit / s SAS will be available in capacities between 400GB and 30.72TB, while the CM5 NVMe model will offer capacities between 800GB and 15.26TB and can be seen at the next Flash Memory Summit event in Santa Clara, California, which will be will celebrate starting today, August 8.
