For a while now that Toshiba had the idea to launch a 14TB hard drive, the only question that remained was when it would. Finally, the Asian company today announced the launch of the MG07ACA series, the first conventional magnetic recording (CMR) hard drive with 14 TB of capacity.

This is the first 14TB hard drive (CMR)

Using a 9-plate helium-sealed design, the new MG07ACA series provides a low-power product and the capacity that cloud storage and business storage solution providers need to achieve their TCO goals.

"We have raised the bar with the new MG07ACA series 9-plate helium sealed design , " said Akitoshi Iwata, Vice President of Toshiba's Storage Products Division.

Will come in 14 and 12TB capacity models

This new series will include the 14 TB with 9 platter and 12 TB with 8 platter models.

Toshiba boasts with these 3.5-inch discs, having improved electricity consumption compared to the previous series MG06ACA, this is important when we talk about lowering costs, especially for companies that offer storage services.

The drives support a 6 Gbit / s SATA interface and 7200 RPM access performance. 14TB models increase 40% in maximum capacity over previous 10TB MG06ACA models. In addition, energy efficiency is improved by more than 50% (W / GB).

At the moment it is unknown when these discs will be available (CMR) and at what price they will.
