Tsmc to start mass production of 5nm chips in 2020
Table of contents:
According to industry sources, the jump to the 5nm manufacturing process is already underway and its mass production will start from 2020. TSMC would be in a position to start manufacturing chips with this node as of that year.
TSMC to start mass production of 5nm chips in 2020
TSMC will begin mass production of its 5nm node in March 2020, they say, when companies using the 5nm PDK can glue their designs together and integrate them into future products. Going into volume production two years after the 7nm node, 5nm is trying to get the 'Moore's Law' back on track .
TSMC will start the production of 5nm chip wafers using EUV (Extreme Ultraviolet) technology. The 5nm node is supposed to use existing FinFET transistors along with many improvements in speed, power, and density compared to the existing 7nm node.

They assure that this process will manage to increase the speed around 15%, while the density of transistors will improve up to 80%, which is excellent news for everyone. There is also a noticeable reduction in power and it is now possible to have a 30% reduction in power consumption, while enjoying the additional speed and density improvements provided by the new node.
The first consumer processors for the 5nm desktop are likely to arrive in 2021. We will keep you informed.
