Tsmc is already preparing for production at 3 nm
Table of contents:
TSMC has been clearly working on silicon manufacturing. The company has clearly increased investments in its R&D that now equal or exceed Intel's capital investments. They do this because strong demand for new technologies is expected and the company will not pull out of the endless race for higher performance and smaller node sizes.
TSMC is already preparing for production at 3 nm
So now they go a step further for 3nm production. They have done so by purchasing a series of land in Taiwan, as previously announced.
Betting on the 3 nm
As reported by various media already, TSMC has acquired up to 30 hectares of land in the South Taiwan Science Park to begin construction of its factories which are supposed to start manufacturing large quantities of 3nm nodes in 2023. Construction of 3nm Las Manufacturing facilities will begin in 2020 when the company will lay the foundation for the new factory.
The 3nm semiconductor node is expected to be the well-known company's third attempt at EUV lithography, right after the 7nm + and 5nm nodes, which are also based on EUV technology. A new breakthrough on your part in this field.
TSMC has not confirmed anything so far in this regard. Although it will be interesting to see if this is the case. What seems clear is that the company seeks to be one of the references in the market. So they are looking to take advantage of their competitors as soon as possible.
