A typo in amazon s3 managed to pull many websites

This week many servers disappeared from the Internet, coincidentally, servers that were part of S3, which comes from Amazon's hosting service. The problem of this fall was that among the affected pages we find some of the utmost importance such as Quora, Trello or IFTTT. In the case of Trello, it affected Tuesday afternoon-night and you will surely notice it if you use it. The causes? The guys from Amazon revealed more details of what happened, and it was all due to a typographical error.

A typo in Amazon's S3 managed to pull many websites

This began to be noticed on Tuesday morning when a small change was made, more specifically from Amazon stated that “ one of the entry orders was written incorrectly and many servers fell. Those who inadvertently jumped out supported two other S3 systems… ”

Basically, the servers were accidentally dropped. It does not mean that these services were in maintenance by chance, but that they were without server because it was down. Dropped S3 and other Amazon web services also not working.

Interestingly, S3 was created with the aim of managing the loss of some servers, but it was not expected that this could happen almost without explanation. In addition, they have confessed to having undergone good growth, so the process of restarting the services and executing the security checks is longer, more than expected.

Although Amazon thought that the recovery would be quick, it was not, quite the opposite. It is clear that everything was due to a typo by Amazon in the Web Service. The solution Amazon wants to implement is that S3 can be recovered more quickly… because they cannot be left without service, of course.
