Virtual reality is very attractive for all users but its price is still prohibitive for many of them, so companies put all their effort in an attempt to make it more accessible. Valve continues to work with virtual reality to improve it, the company has announced a new version of its tracking chip to simplify its design and add some additional features. Valve announces Steam Tracking 2.0.
Steam Tracking 2.0 makes virtual reality cheaper
Valve makes use of the new Triad Semiconductor TS4231 chip that reduces the number of components in addition to adding new features. This new version uses five components per sensor instead of the eleven that were used in the previous TS3633 model, thus achieving a cheaper production cost which translates into a cheaper final product.
Virtual Reality PC Configuration (2017)
The Triad Semiconductor TS4231 also adds a new feature called "Sync on Beam" that allows the system to transmit the signal using the base station laser, thereby allowing the ASIC to use and differentiate the signal from two or more bases. It also represents a significant reduction in the manufacturing price of the bases by avoiding the inclusion of a sync blinker. The sync blinker was a source of interference, so its replacement by new technology only brings benefits.
From the new Triad Semiconductor TS4231 chip comes Steam Tracking 2.0 that is not compatible with SteamVR 1.0 devices. The new base station Steam Tracking 2.0 will arrive with a much lower price than the previous version and its mass production will begin in November 2017, its release on the market is expected for the last quarter of 2017 or early 2018.
