Vega 10 and hbm2 will arrive at the end of the year
Table of contents:
It seemed very clear that we would not see any graphics card based on AMD Vega 10 architecture and HBM2 memory before 2017 but a new source has confirmed that we will finally have the announcement of a card based on vega 10 and HBM2 before the end of the year.
Vega 10 will arrive during the Supercomputer event
During the month of November the Supercomputer event is held during which it is expected that the first graphics card based on a Vega 10 silicon and the HBM2 memory will be announced, the negative part is that it will be a card for the professional sector and therefore it will not be a unit for video games. The gamers will have to wait until sometime in 2017, supposedly the first quarter, to be able to get a card with Vega 10.
We recommend reading our post on the best graphics cards for video games.
At its best, Vega 10 has a total of 16 GB of HBM2 2.0 memory, of course there will be trimmed versions of the card with a smaller amount of memory in order to offer a more affordable product for professionals' pockets. AMD's idea is to make the presentation before the end of the year to keep them excited for the mass availability that would occur later in 2017.
With this move AMD will provide professionals with a very competitive option against Nvidia's Tesla solutions. It remains to be seen how the Vega architecture is able to take advantage of HBM2 memory with enormous bandwidth, if it works well it could put AMD in a much better position in this market dominated by Nvidia. It is also mentioned that Vega 20 will come after Vega 10 to offer a much more refined and competitive solution.
