Western Digital has launched a new product to its range of high-end SSD drives, adding to its WD Black series new models that are designed to offer greater performance with BiCS3 TLC 3D NAND technologies and a curious "Gaming Mode" never seen before..

Western Digital SN750 comes with a curious 'Gaming Mode' to increase performance at the expense of consumption

The WD Black SN750, M.2 NVMe SSDs, which are designed to challenge Samsung's 970 Evo models while offering a more eye-catching look thanks to their optional EK heatsink.

The WD Black SN750 will be available with capacities of 250 GB, 500 GB and 1 TB, the latter will arrive in February, there is also another 2 TB model. At launch, these SSDs will ship without EK heatsinks, but later versions will be available with a premium heatsink (seen in the image below).

The Western Digital SN750 series SSDs are built using Sandisk's 64-layer NAND technology, will use the Sandisk 20-82-007011 controller and feature SK Hynix DDR4 cache memory. At their peak, these SSD drives can consume 9.24 W.

As for performance, Western Digital's 1TB model is offering the highest performance in the SN750 line. However, the 250GB version will be noticeably slower than its peers, although this problem is common to most low-capacity NVMe SSDs.

The Gaming Mode

One of the most curious features of the SN750 is the inclusion of what the company called "Gaming Mode ", which eliminates the low power states of the unit to reduce its latency. In simpler words, it increases its performance by lowering latencies, but at the cost of consuming more energy and generating more heat. To activate or deactivate it, it can be done through software and without the need to restart the system.

The 250GB model will cost about $ 79.99, while the 2TB model will be priced at $ 499.99.
