Microsoft is serious about the Xbox Scorpio, its new game console that will arrive in 2017 to succeed the Xbox One and try to get back ahead of its great rival Sony. The Xbox One has not been as well received as the Sony PS4 mainly due to the greater power offered by the latter, in addition to this, the Microsoft console went on sale along with Kinect and a price of $ 500, higher than the $ 400 that the starting PS4 cost. A panorama that has nothing to do with that of the Xbox 360 that was established as the best video game console of the last generation thanks to a more efficient and easier to program architecture than the PS3.

Xbox Scorpio wants to be the best video game of the next generation

Microsoft has learned the lesson and wants to make the Xbox Scorpio the best video game console ever created, for this it will resort to an AMD Polaris GPU manufactured in 14 nm and with a very remarkable power of 6 TFLOPs, which will mean five times more power than the current Xbox One.

Such a powerful GPU must be accompanied by a CPU to match, today's consoles are based on the efficient but underpowered AMD Jaguar architecture. These cores are clearly insufficient to support a GPU like the Xbox Scorpio so its chip will take a major leap forward by adopting the promising Zen architecture.

Xbox Scorpio will have no less than eight AMD Zen cores with SMT technology and capacity to handle up to 16 threads, which together with its Polaris GPU gives a combined power of 10 TFLOPs and enough power to run games in 4K resolution and virtual reality, especially with good optimization. The GPU and the CPU will share the same memory interface capable of offering a bandwidth of 320 GB / s.

If all this is true, the Xbox Scorpio will be a great console without a doubt.
