Xiaomi mi max 3 review in Spanish (complete analysis)

Xiaomi certainly has many similar models but the recent Xiaomi Mi Max 3 is not one of them. Within the different ranges that the brand has, the Xiaomi Mi Max 3 stands out more than anything for its large screen diagonal, which reaches 6.9 inches. Before there was talk of phablets but now we are literally going to have to say that what we carry in our pockets is simply a 7-inch tablet.

Despite the size, the terminal does not offer many new features, except for the battery, as Uncle Ben would say: a large screen carries a large battery. For this reason, Xiaomi has mounted one with a capacity of 5500 mAh, and we have been able to verify that it is more than fulfilling its mission. To know the rest of the characteristics, jump to our analysis.

As always, thank the guys at InfoFreak for the trust placed in Professional review by giving us this product for analysis.

The Xiaomi Mi Max 3 breaks with the usual tonic of the color of its boxes in orange and this time it decides on white. The minimalism in the design continues, when presenting a sober box, without many additions on the front, only the name of the model, where the number three stands out in large. Inside we find the usual ones, although a gel case like the one brought by other models is missing, especially in a terminal of these dimensions:

  • Xiaomi Mi Max 3. MicroUSB-C cable. Power adapter. SIM tray extractor. Quick guide.

Design

The design of the Xiaomi Mi Max 3 is very reminiscent of other models of the company, such as the Xiaomi A2, since it has similar corners, rounded shapes and the back made of aluminum alloy, with the difference of the 2.5D edges around the screen that, despite being small, does not disappear completely. The biggest difference that we find in this terminal are its dimensions, which are given by its 6.9-inch screen with a useful area of 79%.

Total measurements are 87.4 x 176.2 x 8 mm with a weight of 221 grams. These measurements are obviously not for narrow or small pockets. The same can be said of its use with one hand, which is an almost impossible task and two-handed use is always necessary. As usual, the biggest advantage of this size is the ease of seeing the elements that appear on the screen, such as videos or web browsing.

The 221 grams of weight, despite what you would expect, are not so noticeable, at least with its two-handed use. At one, it probably does get noticed.

On the front, the lower and upper edges do not reach a centimeter and remain around 7 or 8 millimeters. The lower edge is clean as a whistle, it is in the upper one where the selfie camera, the proximity sensor, the notification led and the speaker for calls are located, which this time is also used when playing multimedia content.

The back can be found in the colors black, blue and gold, to which a slightly different color band is added near the top and bottom edges. In this part, the double camera is located vertically in the upper left corner with the led flash in the middle. The housing of this double sensor protrudes a millimeter or two from the housing, which results in the Xiaomi Mi Max 3 dancing slightly when leaving it on a flat surface. The fingerprint sensor is located in the upper central part, just in the same line down the Xiaomi logo is screen printed.

There is no special novelty on the side edges, at the top edge is the microphone for noise cancellation along with the typical remote control infrared sensor that is almost always added by Xiaomi and, finally, the 3.5 mm audio jack connector.

The left side only has the tray to insert two nanoSIMs or one nanoSIM together with a microSD card. On the other hand, the left side has the volume buttons attached at the top and the on / off button immediately below, in the center.

To finish, the bottom edge houses the microphone for calls, the microUSB type-C connector and the speaker for multimedia content.

In summary, a continuous but effective design, but one that can divide opinions by its size, useful for some, for which it is intended, but probably too large for most.

screen

We are in the Xiaomi Mi Max 3 with a 6.9-inch IPS LCD- type screen, as we already mentioned, with a FullHD + resolution of 1080 x 2160 pixels, which gives a density of 345 pixels per inch. This time, the 18: 9 screen ratio continues to be in vogue. This IPS screen is capable of offering a gamut or color range that reaches up to 84% of the NTSC space, this gives us quite natural and vivid colors without becoming overly saturated. On the other hand, the contrast limps a bit by maintaining a contrast of 1500: 1, a ratio somewhat better than other models but still lower than expected, and resulting in somewhat poor black levels.

The viewing angles are quite correct and no tinting is shown, but where the screen stands out is in its level of brightness, which despite not being as good as that of some high-end models, does count as a ratio number of candles per 520 square meter, a good enough quantity to appreciate what is shown on the screen even in sunny exteriors.

Curiously, the screen has scratch resistance but not from Corning Gorilla. Among the extra settings we can activate the reading mode or modify the contrast and the colors of the screen.

Sound

In the design section we discuss the inclusion by Xiaomi of the double speaker in the Xiaomi Mi Max 3 to achieve stereo sound, both the front speaker and the lower main speaker are used for calls. The sound that comes out of the small front speaker, despite not having much power or clarity, does help to complement and enjoy a little more of the sound that comes out of the main speaker. The power of the main speaker is quite high and offers a more than good sound, without excelling in any way. No noise or canning is seen during content playback.

With the use of headphones, the sound remains crystal clear and with good power, although again we are not faced with a reference sound.

OS

As expected, we found Android 8.1 Oreo as the main operating system, accompanied by the MIUI 9.5 personalization layer, which is now possible to update via OTA to MIUI 10.

So we find the same MIUI style already seen in other terminals, a renewed appearance of the bars to modify the volume and brightness, the redesign of the quick icon bar and the same default tools that Xiaomi always adds, such as They are: security, the recorder, compass, scanner, calculator, FM radio, etc; Added to these are Microsoft's Office apps, which never hurt, and other apps that can be considered blotware, such as: Amazon, Joom, Email messenger. We must also not forget the typical Xiaomi apps on your store, your community or your forum. In total, a total set of apps that are quite bulky and to which we must add, in addition, Google's own, which are the only ones that usually come with Android One.

To make matters worse, by sliding the desktop to the left we have several default widgets for frequent system actions. Something that could be done without adding it.

Among the system settings we can find the usual ones to invert or eliminate the system buttons and move through gestures, the possibility of modifying the icons on the taskbar, we will also have the setting to create a second space, create a floating ball to show Notifications or modify the screen for one-handed use.

Generally, the navigation through the system is fluid, although on a few occasions we have been able to verify how an application or the system itself has been caught for a few seconds.

performance

This inch Goliath mounts the Snapdragon 636 SoC with eight Kryo 260 1.8 Ghz cores along with the Adreno 509. We find ourselves with a SoC habitual in many models of the company and that performs a fairly correct job for this mid-range, although as we discussed in the previous section, it can sometimes be a little short to achieve full fluidity. To run applications and games, it performs well as long as it does not require a large graphic load.

The result in AnTuTu given by Xiaomi Mi Max 3 is 119, 208 in our version with 4 GB of LPDDR4 RAM and 64 GB of storage. It is possible to get another model with 6 GB of RAM and 128 GB of storage.

The fingerprint reader works quite well thanks to its fast response, however it does not show surprising speed. The only slightly uncomfortable thing is the arrangement of the sensor, which may be somewhat remote for those with short fingers.

On the other hand, the Xiaomi Mi Max 3 does not have facial recognition. Something that more and more models have.

Camera

The dual rear camera of the Xiaomi Mi Max 3 is composed of a 12-megapixel Samsung S5K2L7 CMOS-type main camera with 1.9 focal length aperture and 1.4 micron pixel size. The secondary camera, on the other hand, has a 5-megapixel Samsung S5K5E8 sensor to support portrait mode.

In scenes with good light, the image quality is quite correct, you can see many details and a good dynamic range in general, we have only occasionally seen the need to use HDR when the camera alone has not been able to capture the scene. Although the captures do not show too much noise and the edges are defined, the biggest drag is the color, which in most of the snapshots is somewhat muted and lacking in intensity.

Indoor scenes still maintain a good level of detail and not a lot of grain in good light. As soon as it is scarce, grain and noise gradually flood the photographs.

At night the level of detail falls especially on the edges, something evident. The same can be seen with the colors or contrast, much more muted.

The digital zoom does not contribute much and it is better to do without it as much as possible, the portrait mode is quite achieved thanks to the incorporation of the second camera. Blur is applied correctly between the focused object and the background.

The front camera has an 8 megapixel Samsung S5K4H7 sensor with 2 focal aperture, 1, 120 micron pixel size and front flash. Although the details are good with this camera, it suffers from the same defects as its older sister when it is portrayed again in a few vivid colors.

Portrait mode on this camera is still good and you need to look closely to notice any serious flaws. It is remarkable what you can achieve through software.

It is possible to record video at 1080p up to 120 fps and 4k up to 30 fps. The recording quality maintains the defects and virtues of the main camera, by not showing excessive noise and a good detail. Autofocus in this case works quite well in both video and photography.

The camera app is quite simple, as Xiaomi has accustomed us. We can select between: short video, normal video, photo, portrait, square, panoramic and manual. In addition, in its upper section we will have quick access to flash, HDR, AI, filters and other settings.

Battery

One of the sections where the Xiaomi Mi Max 3 stands out is in its large battery that has nothing more and nothing less than 5500 mAh. An amount that makes us think that we could almost double the hours of the usual autonomy. It does not succeed but it stays close. Making daily use of social networks, web browsing and multimedia content, the Xiaomi Mi Max 3 managed to reach two and a half days with just over eight hours of screen.

For charging, the Xiaomi Mi Max 3 has Quick Charge 3.0. With this we have achieved a load of 50% in 40 minutes and 100% in around an hour and fifty. A great feat considering its great capacity.

Connectivity

As for the connectivity section in the Xiaomi Mi Max 3, it is worth noting the infrared sensor and the FM radio. It also has: Bluetooth 5.0 LE, Wi-Fi 802.11 a / ac / b / g / n / 5GHz, A-GPS, GLONASS, GPS and VoLTE. However, NFC technology is missing.

Conclusion and final words of the Xiaomi Mi Max 3

We are in a moment where screens greater than 5 inches are the usual trend today, however, sometimes we find more excessive screens for those who want to see things in a big way. The Xiaomi Mi Max 3 can be said to achieve this, although it is not something for everyone and it certainly has its cons.

This screen, despite being one of the features where it stands out the most, is also the target of its drawbacks. The main problem of its size comes when you want to store the terminal in bags or pockets. The same occurs during use, where the size can be noticed.

It also stands out, of course, the large battery created to take advantage of the space given by the screen and which has satisfied us for its long duration. No less was expected.

However, as Xiaomi has accustomed us, the rest of its hardware such as the screen, the sound and the cameras, despite not standing out, also keep up. The performance is the section that limps a little at this point, like the lack of NFC in its connectivity.

The Xiaomi Mi Max 3 is a great terminal, never better said, with its pros and cons. It is up to each individual to see what they value the most. It is possible to get the 4 GB Xiaomi Mi Max 3 for € 252 and the 6 GB for € 290.
