The new Xiaomi Mi Mix phone, manufactured by the Chinese company Xiaomi, was presented yesterday, a phone to which many media have highlighted its design innovation and some of its internal features. That is why we wonder if Xiaomi has anticipated Apple and its future iPhone 8 with the presentation of this phablet.

Xiaomi Mi Mix with virtually frameless display

Designed by P hilippe Starck, Xiaomi Mi Mix comes with a 6.4-inch beveled-edge display that occupies 91.3% of the total size of the phone, it is practically all screen and the edges are almost non-existent. This makes the phone (phablet by size) look almost like a crystal and is undoubtedly, in terms of design, a step forward in the smartphone market.

Another curiosity of the Xiaomi Mi Mix is that the front camera (selfie) is located at the bottom and takes reverse photos that are automatically rotated.

During the presentation, the French designer Philippe Starck wanted to highlight the use of ceramics as the main material of the Xiaomi Mi Mix:

A novel peizolectric speaker system

Another interesting innovation is that it has a piezoelectric speaker system that uses the phone's own metallic edges to generate sound instead of the traditional speaker.

Internally, the Xiaomi Mi Mix is powerful, making use of the Snapdragon 821 processor along with 6GB of RAM and a storage capacity of 256GB. The price of this model is 3, 999 yuan (540 euros) , that is, half of what a 256GB iPhone 7 Plus costs in Spain.

It costs half as much as an iPhone 7 Plus

"The cost of production is extremely high, but we did not want to pass it on to consumers, " says Xiaomi.

By design, feature and even for the price, what we see in the Xiaomi Mi Mix is something that we would love to see in future devices from other manufacturers, including Apple, which next year will present the new iPhone on its tenth anniversary. Surely many will wait for the innovations of the Xiaomi Mi Mix in the iPhone 8. That is why we ask ourselves:

Xiaomi just got ahead of Apple?
