After practically twelve long months of waiting, the mobile payment system of the bitten apple company, Apple Pay, begins to shyly expand to a greater number of banks. Specifically, Apple Pay is already available to customers with accounts at CaixaBank and imaginBank.

Apple Pay, now available to more users

Mobile payments are the future. To this day I do not believe that there is anyone in the world who can question this statement. And of course, they are good business for banks and for the companies behind the payment platforms. The competition is increasing, and one of the main protagonists, how could it be otherwise, is Apple.

Almost a year ago, Apple Pay landed in Spain, however, it did so very timidly. Since then, it has only been available to Banco Santander customers (it is not even operational with its subsidiary, OpenBank), Carrefour Pass or American Express. Thus, the striking note, more than the landing of Apple Pay in Spain, has been its limited availability.

Little by little the panorama changes, and the banks give their arm to twist. The second to do so has been CaixaBank and its imaginBank subsidiary whose clients can already register their credit and / or debit cards from today and start paying using the iPhone or Apple Watch through Apple Pay.

Juan Alcaraz, CEO of CaixaBank, stated that “the launch of Apple Pay allows our entity to reinforce its leadership in electronic banking and mobile banking. CaixaBank currently has the largest number of clients operating through its mobile phone in Spain ”

Although we already knew that the service would reach CaixaBank clients before the end of the year, there was no specific date in this regard, so the news will have been as pleasant as, in a little bit, unexpected.
