We haven't had information about the new generation Threadripper in a long time and it seems that AMD is in the process of surprising everyone with the new chips from the series it is working on. Wccftech sources indicate that AMD is preparing a 64-core, 128-thread Threadripper model.

AMD is working on a 64-core, 128-thread Threadripper model for the last quarter of this year

The source claims that the company is preparing an absolutely monstrous 64-core, 128-thread piece that could be released in the last quarter of 2019. AMD's largest HEDT processor right now is the W2990X reaching 32 cores, so the jump would represent doubling the number of cores in the Threadripper series.

The platform is called X599 right now, although the source says AMD is considering renaming it to avoid confusion with Intel. This is not really surprising since the Intel and AMD HEDT platforms have the same nomenclature and can be very confusing. They also comment that they plan to keep the suffix "99". AMD plans to launch a 64-core Threadripper model and the X599 platform in the fourth quarter of 2019, or whatever it is called. Therefore, with the new parts in the series, new motherboards will also come, which are likely to take full advantage of these chips.

There is no mention of any new socket, so you could still use the classic TR4, which would be a great advantage when upgrading without the need to buy a new motherboard, saving costs.

AMD could launch these processors to the market at a price of between 2, 500 and 3, 000 dollars, a value that could be considered 'affordable' considering the number of cores it has. In comparison, an 18-core Intel part costs $ 1, 800. For workstations the AMD option would be incredibly convenient.

Last quarter of this year is the date set for the launch of the new Threadripper, or at the latest in January 2020. We will see what is true in all this. We will keep you informed.
