During AMD's Financial Analyst Day event the company announced plans for new versions of its powerful Zen micro-architecture based processors. Sunnyvale's are planning the arrival of Zen 3 at 7nm FinFET by 2020 or even earlier.

AMD already thinking of new Zen-based processors

This is excellent news that shows that AMD has a good roadmap beyond the current Ryzen processors, it seems that the company plans a new batch of Zen 1-based chips and using a more refined 14nm + manufacturing process. The latter would mean adopting a strategy very similar to that used by Intel in recent years. These processors manufactured in an improved 14nm process would arrive with higher operating frequencies and better energy efficiency.

These new Zen processors manufactured in the GlobalFoundries 14nm + process would arrive in early 2018, the new Zen 2 generation will be based on the same manufacturing process and bequeath in late 2018 or early 2019. These processors will arrive within the Ryzen family with Ryzen 7 series 1X50 series numbers, although a 2XXX denomination is possible.

Hopefully the new AMD processors will come out more debugged with better support for DDR4 memory and better overclocking capabilities, the two biggest weaknesses of the current chips.
