AMD's Ryzen series processors have transformed the company into a true rival to Intel, fueling much-needed competition in the CPU market by offering a steady increase in performance between the two propositions and better prices.

AMD has about 15.5% x86 CPU market share

This competition has increased AMD's market share, and Mercury Research has reported significant gains for the company in all areas of the CPU market. Overall, AMD has around 15.5% x86 CPU market share (less semi-custom and IoT), with that share increasing 3.2% from the same period last year. This information comes through Patrick Moorhead, the president of Moor Insights, who claims he received his market share figures from AMD's public relations agency.

What is worth noting is that the fee is in terms of the unit fee, and not in dollars. This means that AMD may be present in 15.5% of the total market for x86 CPUs (less semi-custom / IoT), but it does not handle 15.5% of market revenue. The red company's average sales prices are probably lower than Intel's.

AMD's PR agency just shared with me Q4 Mercury Research unit market share numbers for AMD excluding consoles and IoT. So I thought I'd share with you. Keep in mind these are unit share, not dollar share. pic.twitter.com/glFi0WP7F0

When looking at the server market, AMD is said to account for 4.5% of all x86 processors, seeing gains of 0.2 percentage point in the fourth quarter of 2019 and 1.4 percentage points throughout 2019. AMD It has seen further growth in both the desktop CPU and laptop CPU markets, which makes sense given Intel's focus on server processors in recent years.

If AMD can continue this level of growth in 2020, it could have more than 20% of the desktop and laptop CPU market by the end of the year, assuming the company can generate the same percentage point profit. Everything seems to indicate that 2020 will be a continuation of 2019 for AMD in these segments. We will keep you informed.
