With the arrival of third-generation Ryzen processors and X570 motherboards, the PCIe 4.0 era begins and the first SSD drives are being announced. Gigabyte is gearing up to enter the PCIe 4.0 arena with its “AORUS NVMe Gen4 SSD” drive, the company's first SSD to offer sequential read speeds of 5, 000 MB / s.
AORUS NVMe Gen4 SSD has read speeds of 5, 000 MB / s
To create this speedy SSD, Gigabyte uses the Phison PS5016-E16 controller along with Toshiba's 96-layer 3D NAND TLC memory and an external DDR4 cache, which connects to a PC via a PCIe 4.0 x4 interface. Like other early PCIe 4.0 SSDs, the AORUS NVMe Gen 4 comes with a great heatsink design, opting for a solid, industrial copper look.

The new AORUS SSDs will come with 1 and 2TB capacities. Compared to standard PCIe 3.0 SSDs, Gigabyte offers a 40% performance improvement, claiming they are ready for the "next generation of computing systems."
When it comes to sequential performance, Gigabyte's AORUS NVMe Gen4 SSD offers read speeds that can reach 5, 000MB / s and write speeds of 4, 400MB / s. In terms of random read / write IOPS, the unit can also offer performance levels of 750, 000 / 700, 000 IOPS, with a 5 year warranty.
At the moment, it will only be able to work on AMD X570 platforms, so the Intel platform will not be able to take advantage of this speed, at the moment.
